The third season of The Mandalorian has just ended. Of course fans of Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu are now wondering: will there be a fourth season? We’ve already answered that in an in-depth article in The Mandalorian. In short: The script is finished, so we assume there will be a new season. But now we want each other to the The Mandalorian movie directed by Dave Filoni which was officially announced at Star Wars Celebration 2023.
In case you missed it: Dave Filoni, who co-supervises the so-called Mandoverse with Jon Favreau, which (so far) has featured the series “The Mandalorian”, “The Book of Boba Fett”, “Ahsoka” and possibly ” Skeleton Crew”. , is becoming directing a “Star Wars” movie that brings all of these stories together and possibly wraps it up.
So it will something like an “Avengers” group movie, only in the “Star Wars” universe. It had long been suspected that such a major crossover was coming. After all, the characters of the Mandoverse appear gleefully throughout the series anyway — Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), for example, made her live-action debut in “The Mandalorian,” while Din Djarin and Grogu in turn hijacked about half the series “The Book Of Boba Fett”, which was actually about the title hero Boba (Temuera Morrison).
When does the movie The Mandalorian start?
When the movie “The Mandalorian” comes is not yet known, but there is already a first clue. Because not only this movie has been newly announced: “Star Wars 10” with Rey Skywalker (Daisy Ridley) is also coming, as well as a movie by James Mangold about the very first Jedi that takes place far in the “Star Wars” past . And internal sources report that of those three projects, Star Wars 10 is rumored to be released first – and then The Mandalorian movie.
All this is not set in stone. But if “Star Wars 10” actually comes first, a December 2025 theatrical release is likely – because as per the current status, an untitled “Star Wars” movie is planned for this slot. That means Dave Filoni’s Mandoverse adventure could follow in 2026 or 2027. So there would still be enough time to release several seasons or maybe even completely new spin-offs (“The Book of Bo-Katan”?) on Disney+ before all these stories turn into a movie.
Ahsoka Tano, Boba Fett, Din Djarin – and who else?
Since there is certainly a long way to go before the start of the movie “The Mandalorian”, there are still some Hardly any concrete information – just that Dave Filoni Direction, involved in the writing process and of course the film set in the New Republic era has been confirmed. In particular, it is currently difficult to predict which characters will appear in the film. A lot can still happen in series production by then. New characters may be added, some may even die…
Currently, we’d say at least Din Djarin, Din Grogu, Boba Fett, Ahsoka Tano, Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff) and Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) should appear in Filoni’s officially untitled “Star Wars” film. Also very possible are Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), Cobb Vanth (Timothy Olyphant), Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) and The Armorer (Emily Swallow). make their live-action debut – meaning Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo) and Co.
And then there’s the mysterious Project Necromancer mentioned in The Mandalorian – this could also become important in feature films outwardly. Which means we wouldn’t just see Thrawn of the post-Imperial Shadow Council, but Brendol Hux (Brian Gleeson) and Gilad Pellaeon (Xander Berkeley) as well. You can read more about Project Necromancer and how the Mandoverse bridges the gap between Star Wars: Episode 4-6 and Star Wars: Episode 7-9 here:
