The eighth episode of the third season of “The Mandalorian” had some surprises in store for “Star Wars” fans: What, Din isn’t Din Djarin’s first name? And the mouse droids have SIRENS? It was precisely these little beasts that brought the “Star Wars” quintessential droid comedy into the season finale, loosening up the drama surrounding Din Djarins (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu’s fight against Moff Gideon’s henchmen. But they also proved: With this utterly useless maintenance crew, it’s no wonder the empire fell…
The small, boxy droids of the MSE-6 series are known for scurrying around ships and factories, performing maintenance tasks and relaying messages, for example. But it was precisely with the latter that the mouse droids failed miserably in the season finale of “The Mandalorian” – resulting in Din Djarin fighting his way to Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), whose clones were destroyed and eventually eliminated.
Mouse Droids: Wonderfully pointless
Because when one of the mouse droids R5-D4 catches Moff hacking into the system of Moff Gideon’s base on Mandalore, he lets himself be scared away by a small electric shock – and then just calls a bunch of his kind for help instead of Gideon’s stormtroopers to warn ! That would still be okay if the squeaky police force had a little more up their sleeve than…

… their sirens wail and just blast into the much larger R5-D4 repeatedly! Of course, this mouse attack doesn’t affect him at all, and he just uses his flying jets to get away, of course only after successfully completing his task for Din Djarin. At the same time, he casually sweeps a few of the mouse droids, which bother him no more than a swarm of buzzing mosquitoes, into the abyss.
Sorry, dear rich. But it’s no wonder the internet makes fun of the mouse droids – which is exactly what the little ones do have fulfilled the task assigned to them in the “Star Wars” universe: which is to entertain us.

Of course, the empire, or what’s left of it (and in “Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens‘ then becomes the First Order), but not to be underestimated. The proponents of the dark side of the force will cause Din Djarin a lot of trouble as he tries to ensure law and order in the Outer Rim as an unofficial forest ranger of the New Republic – perhaps as early as Season 4 of “The Mandalorian” in the future. “:
