House cleaning help pleased

People who pay others to clean their homes think they are much happier than those who don’t.

According to one study, chores like cooking and cleaning tend to make you happier—if someone else does them for you. For example, people who pay others to clean their apartments so they see themselves as “buying time”, so to speak. are significantly happier than those who are not.

Happier with more time

“Using money to buy time can be a shock absorber to the lack of time, thereby promoting happiness,” researchers (“PNAS”) led by Elizabeth Dunn of the University of British Columbia in Vancouver.

The team interviewed more than 6,000 people from the USA, Denmark, Canada and the Netherlands. He said the participants had different backgrounds. Millionaires were among them. But it didn’t matter how much money people made or how much they spent on helping around the house—time buyers felt happier.

Many do not receive domestic help

Still, many people do not, even if they could afford it, the researchers reported. Nearly half of the 818 millionaires surveyed said they never spent any money delegating household responsibilities to others. There may be cultural reasons for this or it may be gender related. For example, many women feel that they should do the housework themselves, even if they can pay others to pay them.
