It couldn’t be scarier: Insidious: The Red Door trailer sees the horror franchise return to its roots

Insidious and The Conjuring were directed and created by horror master James Wan. But while ‘Conjuring’ has grown into a true franchise with spin-off movies like ‘Annabelle’ or ‘The Nun’, the ‘Insidious’ series lives in the shadow of its big brother. After the second part directed by James Wan and the prequels “Insidious 3” and “Insidious 4”, the series returns to its origin story with “Insidious: The Red Door” – and may finally get the attention it deserves.

Because at least for the author of this article, “Insidious” is even a bit ahead in direct comparison to “The Conjuring” because “Insidious” is less conventional and well-structured, but crazier and crazier than its big scary brother.

With “Insidious 5” back to the beginning

But back to “Insidious: The Red Door”: It ties in with “insiderand its direct sequel “Insidious: Chapter 2” (which sometimes even plays parallel to and before Part 1).

The Lambert family takes center stage again in The Red Doorconsisting of father Josh (Patrick Wilson), mother Renai (Rose Byrne), and sons Dalton (Ty Simpkins) and Foster (Andrew Astor). All four played their roles in the first two films 13 and 10 years ago respectively. There is also daughter Kali, who was still a baby at the time. Apparently part 5 will also return, but it has not yet been confirmed which actress will play this role.

Fittingly, “Insidious 5” takes place ten years after the first two films: Dalton, whose ghost in part 1 in the creepy parallel world He was imprisoned and is now a young adult in college. But when his father Josh, who was then a creature from the obsessed, the college dream soon turns into a nightmare. For both are afflicted by “the oppressed demons of him [also Daltons] past,” according to the film’s official synopsis.

Even aside from the story reminiscent of old sequels like “Halloween” (2018) and the cast comeback, “Insidious 5” closes a circle: because Patrick Wilson will not only play Josh again, but also direct himself for the first time. We’re excited to see what he’s learned from James Wan, who he also worked with on The Conjuring 1-3 and the two Aquaman movies…

“Insidious 5: The Red Door” opens in German cinemas on July 6, 2023.
