In April, life is slowly coming out again: we spend more time in the garden and enjoy the mild weather on the veranda. In order for the view of your own garden to appeal to the eye, it must be well-groomed and well-groomed.
There is work to be done in the garden from month to month. Grass first and foremost in April: it can be mowed, plowed and fertilized for the first time. If necessary, you can now lay the lawn. Hobby gardeners with vegetable fields can also plant lettuce, vegetables or herbs. On the veranda, the dishes are cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner and the pots are taken from the winter storage.
But April is a very unpredictable month when the cold can strike again. Then all the work is gone?
Unpredictable April weather
Mario Meier (33), owner of Mario Meier Garten, knows what to do. He says there is no need to take any special precautions in case of a short cool-down. “Most plants can stand it.” But if the thermometer drops below zero for a few days and the ground freezes, the gardener says that sensitive plants should be protected if possible. Potted plants should be placed on the veranda or terrace, protected from the wind.
Nature begins to bloom
And what plants can you plant in April? “Everybody actually, because the temperatures right now are perfect for that.” Besides flowers, trees and shrubs can now be planted.
Ornamental cherry or magnolia, which fascinates with pink flowers, blooms especially well in spring. Unfortunately, all the magic soon ends. There’s no such thing as a spring must-have plant, according to Meier: “But the variety of species is so great that everyone will find a favorite flower or plant.”
