It was already revealed in the trailers of the third and final season of “Star Trek: Picard” that at some point in the new episodes, the Enterprise-F, i.e. the successor to the iconic starships of the “Next Generation” crew of “Star Trek” Trek: The Next Century” and its four feature films, and in Episode 9 it finally happened: under the command of Starfleet returnee Elizabeth Shelby (who, as in two episodes of “Next Generation”, is again played by Elizabeth Dennehy) , the F-model (now listed for decommissioning) completes a show flight of the Federation’s legendary flagship on the occasion of the so-called Border Day celebrations.
What you probably didn’t expect, even after all the trailers: At the very end of the new episode, the Enterprise-D actually celebrates a nostalgic comeback, the years after its destruction on and on the planet Veridian III (featured in the movie ” Star Trek 7: Generations Gathers) was secretly restored by Geordi LaForge (LeVar Burton) When the old companions around Picard (Patrick Stewart), Riker (Jonathan Frakes) and Co. reunite after so many years on the ship’s bridge welding them together for seven “Next Generation” seasons makes for an absolute Trekkie goosebumps moment.
However, the question remains what really happened to the equally popular Enterprise-E, on which Picard and his crew lived their space adventures in the “Star Trek” cinematic adventures 8 to 10…
Worf was captain of the Enterprise-E
And exactly the question is also addressed in the current “Picard” episode itself, as Geordi points out: “Unfortunately we can’t fall back on the Enterprise-E”. Then the others throw Worf (Michael Dorn) gives a knowing look, who then only replies, “That wasn’t my fault”. Unfortunately, we don’t get any further explanation about the fate of the Enterprise-E in the series, leaving it largely in the dark. Nevertheless, there are some interesting bits of information in the short altercation.
Thus it is suggested by the reaction of those present, that Worf commanded the Enterprise-E at least temporarily as a captain in the official “Star Trek” canon, as was the case in several companion novels. This may have been the case when the ship was involved in an incident involving the USS Protostar, where she briefly came under the control of the Vau N’Akat Living Construct and was badly damaged in the ensuing battle between Federation ships (see in the animated series ” Star Trek: Prodigy”).
But that’s probably not all: Worf seems to have remained in command of the ship, even when an unknown incident eventually led to her being taken out of active service soon after.
Unknown incident at Kriilar Prime
Online log entries accompanying the social media release of Picard Season 3 simply state that the Enterprise-E took place in 2386 (thus seven years after the events of the last Next Generation). -Theatrical movie “Star Trek: Nemesis” and 13 years before the start of the “Star Trek: Picard” storyline) was sent to the planet Kriilar Prime, where an incident occurred that forced Worf from his position as captain and ultimately resulted in the iconic ship’s decommissioning, apparently. From then on, Worf joined Section 31 of the Federation Intelligence Agency, for which he is still active in the third “Picard” season.

Exactly what happened at Kriilar Prime and shortly after is unclear, even though Worf’s former comrades in arms clearly know all about it. “Picard” showrunner Terry Matalas explained via Twitter that it was left blank on purpose and would like novel or comic book authors to fill it in.
That was the idea. https://t.co/z7zqji3a9y

It remains to be seen if we’ll actually see or read the story behind it one day and then also learn to what extent Worf is really responsible for the Enterprise-E’s demise. For the Klingon and friends, in the very last episode of “Star Trek: Picard” to come, the first thing to do is stop the revived Borg on the good old Enterprise-D. The final episode will be released in Germany on April 21, 2023 on Amazon Prime Video and Paramount+.
