While Paul Walker will probably forever be remembered as Brian O’Connor from “Fast & Furious,” Denise Richards burned mostly as Bond girl Dr. Christmas Jones in “The World Is Not Enough” in the collective memory of the cinema audience. However, the most entertaining movie from both Walker and Richards is one that hardly anyone knows about – and whose entire budget probably wouldn’t even have been enough to cater for the blockbusters just mentioned: “Tammy and the T Rex‘ appeared in Germany only in abbreviated form on VHS. There was never a review on DVD or Blu-ray – the recommendation made by the author of this article for tonight is all the more explicit:
Because “Tammy And The T-Rex” celebrates today, April 14, 2023 – from 10:20 p.m. on Tele 5 its completely unabridged TV premiere in Germany. Incidentally, the long-awaited uncut broadcast is (of course!) thanks to the uncrowned film kings Oliver Kalkofe and Peter Rütten. The cult duo came up with something very special for the 150th episode of their popular format “SchleFaZ”, in which they have been celebrating the “worst films of all time” for years, and finally brought the legendary cult splatter to German television! And if you miss the broadcast: The film will also be available as a stream in the Tele 5 media library from April 15 to July 13, 2023!
Have you always wanted to know what Paul Walker or Denise Richards were up to before their breakthrough? Handmade splatter effects will get your heart pumping – and animatronic monsters anyway? Do you think Jurassic Park and Jurassic World is all dinosaur cinema has to offer? Do you also want to convince yourself that dinosaurs on the phone, mad German scientists and penis-squeezing duels in the schoolyard would really make any teen rom-com better? Then you should definitely have seen the completely insane and at least as charming “Tammy And The T-Rex”! It doesn’t matter if it’s on TV or streaming…
One of the Craziest Movies Ever: How “Tammy And The T-Rex” Came To Be
It’s actually a miracle that this movie still exists. Because the horror comedy, also known in this country as “Teenage T-Rex: The Human Dinosaur”, came about completely by accident: The owner of an animatronic dinosaur approached director Stewart Raffill with the idea of using the animal for a movie. The problem: There was no script at the time – and the T-Rex was only available for a few weeks before it was due to be used in an amusement park!

All this took place one year after Steven Spielberg’s huge success”Jurassic Park‘, which created a new problem for the creators of ‘Tammy’: Because no one would have believed their dinosaur could even remotely be a real one. So Raffill had to come up with something – and fast. Together with screenwriter Gary Brockette, he finally found the perfect solution. Or at least the best that can be thought of in a few days, given the circumstances…
What Tammy and the T-Rex are about
High school students Tammy (Denise Richards) and Michael (Paul Walker) are madly in love. A circumstance that Tammy’s ex Billy (George Pilgrim) does not want to approve at all. He wants to get rid of Michael at all costs, so without further ado, he packs up his buddies to kidnap his lover’s new lover and dump him in a nature preserve.
There, Michael is lucky when he is attacked by a lion. Because even though the teenager ends up in the hospital as a coma patient – he is alive. And is therefore the perfect guinea pig for the crazy Dr. Wachenheim (Terry Kiser) and his assistant/sex playmate Helga (Ellen Dubin), who plan to implant the teen’s brain into their animatronic dinosaur.

Creature Feature, Horror Splatter, RomCom and much more
“Tammy And The T-Rex” is a hodgepodge where somehow nothing at all tries to fit together – and paradoxically, that’s what makes it so uniquely cohesive.
The costumes could have been stolen from the set of “Clueless” (highlight: Paul Walker in a cropped shirt), the body comedy is reminiscent of “Dick & stupid” (highlight: Denise Richards faints), the splatter effects make scientists-Horror à la “Re-Animator” (highlights: a bitten head and a hackneyed skullcap) and the countless totally insane ideas that are best fun when they really don’t make any sense are the absolute icing on the cake anyway (too many highlights to list them all to name).
In the end, you really can’t help but put “Tammy And The T-Rex” on the same level as great cinema classics like “King Kong“,”Psycho“,”2001: A space odyssey” or “Lord of the Rings– at least that’s what the author of these lines thinks. Yes, the horror-trash-fireworks, quickly knocked down, are a wildly put together hodgepodge of the most disparate set pieces and, in terms of popularity, probably the exact opposite of the classics just mentioned. Because hardly anyone has seen the Dino-RomCom, and many who have seen it would probably want to forget it immediately. The author of this article has nevertheless taken “Tammy And The T-Rex” to heart as few films. Because he finds:
“Tammy And The T-Rex” is a movie like no other, a unique one that explores the boundaries of cinema in an unprecedented way, representing a uniquely curious movie experience. After all, there can never be enough proof that art can do anything. And when the end result is so entertaining, you can only wish there were more of these “worst movies of all time”.

By the way, “Tammy And The T-Rex” isn’t just one wonderful edition* on Blu-ray, but also full length (!) in the video game “High On Life”. In both cases only in the original English, which in the end is not too bad. You don’t exactly need a PhD in English to follow the dialogues written in cloak-and-dagger action. And even if you don’t understand a single word, “Tammy And The T-Rex” thrives on such graphic narrative that it would work just as well as a silent movie. In the end, it’s the images that get burned into your memory – whether you like it or not…
