Probably the most beautiful mountain valley in Switzerland: Lauterbrunnen valley

The Lauterbrunnen Valley is a glacier-formed valley in the Bernese Oberland that impresses its visitors with its steep walls and numerous thundering waterfalls. It is also the starting point for excursions to Jungfraujoch and Schilthorn, and a point of attraction for base jumpers and paraglider pilots from around the world. This combination of outdoor sports and original scenery combined with tradition fascinates everyone.

Europe’s largest waterfall: Rhine Falls

The bodies of water flowing down from the Rhine Falls in Neuhausen SH offer a huge and impressive sight. This natural wonder should definitely be experienced alive! It is best to combine it with boating, which includes climbing the towering rock between the two arms of the waterfall and pausing. You won’t be left dry, but being able to experience the thunder and roar of the water in the immediate vicinity is worth it.

3

The deep gorges of Graubünden

As impressive as the Rhine is in Neuhausen, the Rhine gorge can be admired in Ruinaulta. Here the Rhine has carved its way for centuries. Stunning viewing platforms such as Il Spir in Conn GR offer dreamy views. Via Mala, a 30-minute drive from the Rhine, is also worth a visit. Majestic bridges and more than 300 steps take visitors through the narrow paths of the “bad road” to “Tusus GR”.

4

Switzerland’s Mount Toblerone: Matterhorn

Yes, it’s a classic – but still a “must” in the top ten sights in Switzerland: Horu, at 4478 metres. This is what locals affectionately call the Matterhorn. And it’s not just this impressive deserted mountain that makes a trip to Zermatt worthwhile. There is also the rather pedestrian village, the exciting Matterhorn Museum – Zermatlantis – and the stylish mountain restaurant Chez Vrony, where you can indulge in Gault Millau cuisine at 2100 metres.

5

Cradle of the Confederation: Central Switzerland

Located in central Switzerland, in the cantons of Uri, Schwyz, Unterwalden and Lucerne, Lake Lucerne is a dream destination. Beautiful panoramic mountains surround the lake, which stretches on different floors. The area is particularly well viewed from the peaks of Mount Pilate and Mount Rigi. A ride on the Hammetschwand chairlift in Bürgenstock is also worthwhile for those who love heights. It can be perfectly combined with a trip by boat and funicular to Bürgenstock.

6

Aletsch Glacier

The Great Aletsch Glacier is a remnant of the last Ice Age, about 18,000 years ago. Since then, the climate has steadily warmed, and where once enormous floes of ice, the diverse landscape of the Jungfrau-Aletsch UNESCO World Heritage Site can now be explored. In the winter months, 104 kilometers of tracks are available at the Aletsch Arena. In summer there are impressive hikes, such as the 15-kilometer circular walk from the Bettmerhorn via the Märjelensee to Bettmeralp.

7

Zurich – the big city with charm

In a global comparison, Zurich is a manageable city with a population of 420,000. That’s why it’s best to explore its beautiful spots on foot: take a leisurely stroll through the streets of Niederdörfli, visit Grossmünster or walk along Lake Zurich. All this is possible within a few hundred meters. Worth the detour to Polyterrasse in front of the ETH main building. From here you’ll have an impressive view of Zurich’s old town – and it’s easy to get to everything in just two and a half minutes with the nostalgic Polybahn from Centralplatz.

8.

Switzerland’s most valuable pearls: lakes

Mountain lakes are a nature lover’s dream. The colors of these cold waters, ranging from deep blue to turquoise, are mesmerizing. Lakes Blausee and Oeschinensee in the Bernese Oberland are particularly well known. But its Graubünden counterparts are just as impressive: Lake Cauma and Lake Cresta. Located in the middle of the Flims GR forest, Lake Cauma is a dream for romantics. From here, it’s an easy two-and-a-half hour hike to the equally idyllic Cresta Lake – two birds with one stone.

9

Alpine Crossings

Some patience is required until the snow clears the roads until the Swiss Alps have passed. But then you should definitely do the one-day post-bus tour through the Grimsel, Nufenen, Gotthard and Susten crossings. At more than 10,000 meters above sea level, this journey offers insights and views of the contrast between untouched nature and human progress without changing trains: majestic glaciers, awe-inspiring hydroelectric power stations, deep gorges and ancient mountain villages converge along the serpentines.

10

Gandria – a trip back in time in the south of Switzerland

The small village of Gandria TI on the shore of Lake Lugano exudes pure nostalgia. Even if not world famous, this beautiful place has to be one of the top ten sights in Switzerland. Time seems to stand still in the town of 200 people and the proximity to Italy is evident. Until the 1930s, there was not even a road to the village of Ticino at the foot of Monte Brè. It’s best to come by ship, thanks to the incredible backdrop of many colorful houses.
