Already at the end of 2022, Warner Bros. TV boss Channing Dungey hopes for more adventures from the world of Hogwarts. It has not been announced what new “Harry Potter” projects should be about. As of yesterday it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery wants to produce a “Harry Potter” series, which will then air on the Warner streaming service HBO Max. We reported.
The hammer here: the series does not expand the existing film world. No, it’s a reboot. That means in plain language: The story of Harry Potter is being told again. Not with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint, of course, but with new actors. It is said that one book per season will be adapted. So in the end you would get a minimum of seven seasons.
Fans are not thrilled at all
On Twitter, countless users expressed their anger at the decision to republish the stories of the movies and books. Harry Potter fans can be pretty merciless and crush on anything they don’t like. Just think of the “Fantastic Beasts” series, which ended prematurely after part 3. In addition, the Harry Potter film series is sacred to fans.
Then it also fits what BLURAYANGEL writes on Twitter: “I just can’t believe it…the franchise is perfect. Why a reboot??? Is nothing sacred anymore?”

Zoë Rose Bryant also disagrees with the decision to retell the ‘Harry Potter’ saga in serial form, partly because JK Rowling deserves it again: ‘Apart from how absurdly unnecessary a ‘Harry Potter’ reboot in the first place, I wouldn’t just keep giving billions to a woman who has made it her life’s work to discredit the existence of trans women and endanger our lives with her hateful rhetoric.”
Aside from how absurdly unnecessary a HARRY POTTER reboot is in the first place, I’d rather we didn’t continue to give billions to a woman who has made it her life’s mission to invalidate the existence of trans women and destroy our life with her inexorably endangering hateful rhetoric

German Twitter user Lilischote also has a clear position on the upcoming series, writing: “Anyone watching HBO’s Harry Potter series, if it ever comes out, isn’t showing solidarity. So you’ve heard it before.”

Houston Coley is sure that the Harry Potter series will be the most hated of them all – and also draws a comparison with the Amazon series The Rings of Power: “Hard to imagine anything so hated by someone like the Rebooting ‘Harry Potter’ Right will find reasons to hate it because it is. The left will hate it for obvious reasons. Normalos just shares the memes. They become rings of power on steroids. Pray for these children.”
hard to think of anything that will be hated by *everyone* more than this Harry Potter reboot. the right will find reasons to hate it for being awake. the left will hate the obvious. normies will just share the memes. it will be Rings of Power on steroids. pray for those children

Meanwhile, @kristenluvr has other concerns when it comes to the Harry Potter reboot: “With ‘Harry Potter’ rebooting, I’m terrified that ‘Twilight’ will be next.”

This is just a small selection of social media voices, but there are many more, for example under the message with our article on the FILMSTARTS Facebook page.
It seems that the “Harry Potter” series is not doing well at all with many fans of the films at the moment and there is a lot of headwind for now. That doesn’t have to mean anything though, because taking an anti-stance on Twitter is now more than common. In the case of “Harry Potter”, a very personal subject for many, this negative echo could potentially create bigger waves. Time will tell.
The unbroken popularity of the “Harry Potter” series was recently demonstrated by the video game “Hogwarts Legacy”, in which you could move freely in the world of Hogwarts and follow your own path as a wizard or witch. So the rejection is not a fundamental problem, in the case of the series, many now see part of their childhood in danger.
