Re-enactments of famous cinema classics have been enjoying increasing popularity for several years now. Because formats like StudioCanal’s “Best Of Cinema” series allow movie fans to relive some of the greatest masterpieces in cinema history or their favorite movies after a long time or for the first time on the big screen. Tonight (April 4), for example, James Cameron’s “Terminator 2” makes its comeback – with many more to come.
Warner Bros. celebrates its 100th anniversary this year and is bringing some of its greatest classics back to cinemas to celebrate the big anniversary. The distributor has now announced that it will be celebrating the milestone anniversary with a slew of new products, offerings and, most importantly, the re-release of numerous cinematic milestones. We briefly summarize what awaits you in the coming months:
These Warner classics will return to cinemas in 2023
The series opens with one of the first comedy blockbusters ever: “super guy“. Richard Donner’s iconic superhero adventure starring Christopher Reeve as the Man of Steel will mark the 85th birthday of Krypton’s most famous citizen, according to the official press release – so as early as April 18, 2023.
Afterwards there will also be special screenings of the “Lord of the Rings” trilogy and the “Harry Potter“-queue, where a particularly strong rush is to be expected. After all, both Peter Jackson’s fantasy epic and the Sorcerer’s Apprentice saga based on JK Rowling are among the most popular film series since the turn of the millennium, have repeatedly lured the masses to cinemas during special screenings, and will probably rank among the most-attended re-releases to count.
In addition, Warner also confirmed a number of milestones in the moving image, whose cult status has remained unchallenged for decades – and which very few of our readers* probably experienced when it originally hit theaters: “Casablanca” (1942) with Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, among others, the James Dean classic “Because They Don’t Know What They’re Doing” ( 1955) and Stanley Kubrick’s “2001: A Space Odyssey” (1968) – which finally tops the official FILMSTARTS ranking of the best sci-fi movies of all time.
Warner’s birthday celebration in theaters, which will also include a few more films, will end with one of the most infamous shockers of all: “The exorcist‘ can be seen on October 31, fitting for Halloween.
Party is also celebrated in the home cinema
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will also release six themed movie bundles, each containing five movies from one genre digitally – including horror (including “IT” and “Conjuring”), futuristic thrillers (including “Edge Of Tomorrow” and “Pacific Rim”), action and adventure (including “Matrix” and “Blade Runner”), comedy (including “Wir sind die Millers” and “Game Night”), heroes (including “Argo” and “Sully”), and comedy comedy (including “Police Academy” and “The Shrill Four on the Move”).
In addition, Warner is working on a four-part special that will process the eventful and above all extremely successful history of the Hollywood studio. A bonus that the author of this article is very happy about – after all, such flashbacks always manage to rekindle his love for cinema…
