A new “Star Trek” series is coming – but it will be very different than you think!

The Star Trek universe just keeps on growing – at least on TV screens. Just a few days ago, it was confirmed that with “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” and “Star Trek: Lower Decks” two series of the Paramount + cult franchise will be sent to the extension. While “Strange New Worlds” is getting a third season, “Lower Decks” is getting a total of five seasons.

And apparently it doesn’t stop there, as the time-honored sci-fi franchise continues to expand: Paramount+ has now announced that a new “Star Trek” series will soon enter production. This time, not the endless expanses of space are explored (at least for now), but the training facility for future starship commanders: the Starfleet Academy.

This is what Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is all about

The New Series”Star Trek: Starfleet Academy‘ should have stronger nuances towards a young-adult soap and be very diverse in the way the characters are created – which is also desirable for a series in the “Star Trek” universe, after all, there is a large canon of already established species, peoples and cultures that can be used in the series.

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is about a young group of cadets who share the dream of one day being a part of Starfleet. Under the watchful eye of the trainers, they must meet the challenges of the training. Friendships, rivalries and first love are just as much a part of daily training as self-discipline and an iron will. But future Starfleet members also face a new enemy that threatens not only the Academy but the entire Federation.

Young adult soap opera in the “Star Trek” cosmos

The young adult impact could also fit – fans know that soap opera elements have always been part of the series’ charm. Plus, the series’ protagonists would be just under 16 years old (or the equivalent of another species) – so it’s only natural that hormone balance can still get away with the characters from time to time.

Noga Landau (“Nancy Drew”) and franchise boss Alex Kurtzman will oversee the series’ fortunes and also act as executive producers. It is not yet known when we can immerse ourselves in the love and training cosmos of the future Starfleet cadets. However, as the project is still in an early stage of development, we do not expect to be able to start until the end of 2024.
