He is the master of body horror – horror legend David Cronenberg proved that again in 2022 with “Crimes Of The Future”. In the run-up to the world premiere of his latest shocker, the doyen director announced wholeheartedly that people would flee the cinema shortly after the start of the film. In addition, fainting and panic attacks were predicted. And even if the response to the movie wasn’t all that great in the end, it’s clear that Cronenberg movies can always be eagerly awaited.
Who would have thought that after his comeback as a director in 2022 (before that he shot Maps To The Stars with Robert Pattinson in 2014), the filmmaker is already about to shoot his next film: How deadline reported exclusively, the first shot of his new movie “The shroudsfalls as early as May 8, 2023 in Toronto.
For the exceptional director this time Vincent Kassel (“Hate – La Haine”), Diana Kruger (“Inglourious Basterds”) and Guy Pearce (“Memento”) standing in front of the camera.
And that’s what “The Shrouds” is about
In The Shrouds, Vincent Cassel plays Karsh, the innovative businessman and grieving widower who invents a new device that allows the decomposition process of deceased loved ones to be viewed in real time, even after burial. He has this special construction placed on his hypermodern but extremely controversial cemetery.
Shortly before the immediate breakthrough of his invention, several graves in his cemetery are deliberately destroyed, including his wife’s resting place. There is no clear motive for the crime. The search for the culprits leads Karsh down a dark path…
It is not yet known when “The Shrouds” will hit our cinemas and what roles Diane Kruger and Guy Pearce will play in the scandal director’s new film.
