Air: the story behind the logo

Having an Air Jordan in your shoe rack and flaunting it is the wish of those who love the famous Nike basketball shoes; first of all, because the said footwear has established itself as a favorite footwear on and off the field with one name: Michael Jordan.

was former American basketball player which sparked a mid-80s sneaker craze that’s still going strong. Precisely because of this fever, on April 6, only in theaters, the film AIR: the story behind the logo, with Ben Affleck as director, is released.

AIR reveals the incredible groundbreaking partnership between then-rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division, who revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture with the Air Jordan brand.

AIR, starring Ben Affleck, Jason Bateman, Chris Messina, Marlon Wayans, with Chris Tucker and Viola Davis, is also a moving story that follows the career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the value of her son’s immense talent, and the basketball phenomenon who will become the greatest all time.

During a virtual press conference with the cast, Ben Affleck said that directing the film was easy because he worked with people he knows and respects, calling it “walking on air.”

In fact, Affleck explained that he understood that Jordan’s mother had to be a dominant part of the story, when she heard the athlete talking about her, and she saw how much she respected him.

“When he talked about his mother, I was surprised and I was ashamed that I had not supposed it to be so, but when I heard it, I knew at once. This is a story, and it’s a beautiful story, and it’s a story about Deloris Jordan and what she means to Michael, and that she’s a symbol of what so many mothers must have meant to so many athletes…” he described. It was like that when he was considering actress Viola Davis to play the role.

For her part, Davis said that Deloris is a very calm and quiet woman and it was a challenge to wrap up all that spirit.

In his director’s statement, Affleck made it clear that AIR is not the story of Michael Jordan, but there is no story without him.

“I wouldn’t have this film if I hadn’t contacted him first, and I am grateful to Michael for sharing what was important for him. His presence and influence is felt throughout the film, even though we don’t see his face. Because he is such an icon, an undeniably important and significant figure, someone who is so highly regarded by everyone, we didn’t want to break the illusion, but let the audience conjure up their own memories and experiences of what Michael means. Jordan,” he explained.
