“John Wick” Franchise Growing: Creators Announce Another Spin-Off – Featuring a “John Wick 4” Character?

Producer Erica Lee revealed to the magazine , that there will be “another movie” in the “John Wick” universe and that it is currently being developed. She expects the project to be officially announced next month or the month after that.

This means that the “John Wick” franchise will continue to grow. In addition to the now four films in the main series, “Ballerina”, which plays between “John Wick 3” and “John Wick 4”, will soon be the first cinema spin-off starring Ana de Armas (“Blonde”) on a revenge journey. The series “The Continental” also tells the backstory of young Winston (Ian McShane in the movies).

Much more “John Wick”!

Erica Lee, who is employed by the American film distributor Lionsgate, which releases the series “John Wick” and is in charge of the franchise there, participates in the interview Clearly there is much more to come. The series “John Wick” is her priority. There are many discussions with authors about further projects.

She also hopes there will be “Ballerina 2” and “John Wick 5” – director Chad Stahelski and lead actor Keanu Reeves actually want to get away from it all. That makes sense after the end of “John Wick 4”. But this ending leads us to the spin-off now revealed by Lee – especially the “John Wick 4” closing credits scene! Therefore: Attention! SPOILERS!

What about the new spin-off? Movie about Akira and Caine?

The fact that Lionsgate is about to announce the spin-off in a month or two suggests to us that it is directly related to John Wick 4. Because there are really only two reasons why the project hasn’t been announced yet: is not done yet – but the fact that Lee is already talking about it with confidence contradicts it. Whether the announcement spoils “John Wick 4” – the time frame speaks for that. However, one to two months after the theatrical release, the fans saw the film. Then you can reveal that certain characters survive and get a spin-off.

And that’s where it’s best to start with the credits scene. In this one, we only see Akira (Rina Sawayama) armed with a stabbing weapon approaching Caine (Donnie Yen) in the street to avenge her father’s death. How this debate continues could be the subject of another film.

Chad Stahelski is already teasing an Akira spinoff

In another interview with Erica Lee also revealed that Akira is a character she would like to see more of. It’s interesting in this context that director Chad Stahelski originally shot a longer scene where Akira actually kills Caine. But then they decided to drop this and let the confrontation end openly on average.

A death scene of Donnie Yen afterwards would certainly have had weight in the (alleged) death of main character John Wick. According to Stahelski, it is also “cooler” not to know. But he mentions another reason bee:

“Let’s open the door for a new John. But who’s the new one? And we thought: Akira!”

It’s clear from Stahelski’s words that he can envision an Akira movie, and as eager as Erica Lee seems to grow the franchise, he must have found her ears very open. So we believe the mystery spin-off is really an Akira movie – with Lee himself also teasing an alternative.

Or a spin-off starring Laurence Fishburne’s Bowery King?

Because in the already mentioned further interview with Erica Lee also revealed that a spin-off all around Lawrence Fishburnes Bowery King is also very interesting according to her:

“The world of the Bowery King and the Bowery is something we are very interested in. He runs some sort of underground business and it’s such an interesting world. How does he get weapons and boats? He pops up everywhere. He is the leader; he has homeless people crowding the streets spreading information about pigeons. He’s low tech and analog in a digital world, and he knows everyone and goes everywhere. I think that is something very interesting to explore.”
