“Grey’s Anatomy” is one of ABC’s premier entertainment formats. No wonder the hospital series never ends. A record has already been broken, as Grey’s Anatomy is the longest-running prime-time medical drama in television history. With the finale of the 19th season in the United States looming ahead, fans in this country are naturally hoping that the season will also soon be released on the Disney+ subscription, where you can currently stream 18 seasons of “Grey’s Anatomy”.
As has now been confirmed, “Grey’s Anatomy” has been renewed for a 20th season. This is certainly not a real surprise, instead the announcement was really just a formality. The real news is that something happened behind the scenes. As announced a few days ago, showrunner Krista Vernoff is leaving the series. She was responsible for Grey’s Anatomy from 2007 to 2011 and then again from 2017 to Season 19.

So there is no reason to worry, because Vernoff’s successor is also a true “Grey’s Anatomy” veteran: Meg Marinis. She has been an executive producer of the series since season 15, but was already working as a production assistant in season 3 and gradually worked her way up to permanent writer. She wrote 35 episodes for the series. Now she has taken the next leap and may be responsible for the series as showrunner.
But that’s not the only change, as it’s been known for a while that Ellen Pompeo will no longer be part of the game in the 20th season of “Grey’s Anatomy.” In season 19, the series star played only a supporting role. In February, the actress announced her departure with emotional words on Instagram:

It is not yet known when the 19th season, the finale of which will air on ABC on May 18, 2023, will come to Germany. In the past, however, Disney+ didn’t let too much time pass before the current season was also available to stream in Germany after its broadcast in the US. We will keep you informed about this.
