“Shadow And Bone” Misses The Jump To The Top Of The Netflix Charts – Is Season 3 In Danger?

Alina Starkov (Jessie Mei Li) is back in the fight against The Dark One (Ben Barnes) — and the curse of the early cancellation of countless young adult fantasy formats on Netflix. Recently, the streaming service pulled the plug on “Warrior Nun”, “Fate: The Winx Saga”, “Half Bad: The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself” and “Cursed”. The series “Shadow And Bone – Legends Of The Grisha” can build on a large fan base of Leigh Bardugo’s novels. But here, too, the numbers ultimately decide: Will Shadow and Bone get a third season and the “Six Of Crows” spin-off or not?

The numbers that decide, among other things, are the viewing hours – and Netflix evaluates them once a week. A look at the global Netflix top 10 shows: “Shadow And Bone” season 2 didn’t jump directly to number 1. “You – Du will love me” season 4 continues to top the charts with 64 million hours of viewing. The new episodes of “Shadow And Bone” reached #2 with 50 million hours.

1st place for “Shadow And Bone” then next week?

But as so often the numbers are not entirely comparable, so caution is advised when drawing conclusions: Movies and series start on Netflix on different days of the week. However, the graphs always refer to the total figures for a week from Monday to Sunday. While the fourth season of “You,” available in its entirety on Netflix last week, aired for a full seven days last week, started Season 2 of Shadow and Bone only on Thursday, March 16, 2023, so only had four days.

And another detail in the global top ten is also important: The first season of “Shadow And Bone – Legenden der Grisha” rose to No. 5 on the charts with 24 million hours. It has been two years since the first episodes appeared, it seems that many viewers are now replaying Season 1 (or watching it for the first time) before moving onto Season 2.

So the card numbers for the next week will have more meaning. And usually wait Netflix at least four weeks before assessing the success or failure of a format – and any renewals or cancellations. Although it can already be said with caution: the second season of “Shadow And Bone” does not seem to be an absolute high-flyer.

International Mega Hit: “The Glory”

With the non-English series, on the other hand, it is very different – there is a clear high-flyer, and that for weeks. The South Korean revenge series “The Glory” was streamed for almost 124 million hours in its seventh week. The 1st place in the weekly charts is as clear as pie, and too Season 1 of “The Glory” has now moved up to No. 7 in the all-time charts for non-English speaking series with 380 million hours.
