Bad Bunny is facing a million dollar lawsuit from his ex-girlfriend

Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny has been sued in court in San Juan by his ex-girlfriend Carliz De La Cruz, who is seeking at least $40 million in damages for image rights, moral rights and damages.

The lawsuit filed by De La Cruz, a 2021 law graduate, against Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, real name Bad Bunny, is over the fact that the artist used the refrain “Bad Bunny baby” in several songs without his permission.

According to legal documentpresented on March 1 at Court of first instance San Juan, but published this Monday, 2015. De La Cruz and Martínez Ocasio “decided it would be an amazing idea” for this, after his stage name, to include the word ‘baby’”.

Bad Bunny included that too refrain in the case “For you” (2017), where he also sang Bryant Myersand the young woman’s voice appeared “without your consent or written authorization“, the court document states.

This was the first song Bad Bunny recorded for the label Rhymes Entertainmentwhich he signed in April 2016 and was also sued by De La Cruz.

The plaintiff alleges that Bad Bunny appeared in Puerto Rico, the United States and the Dominican Republic, beginning with concerts he repeats the phrase “Bad Bunny baby” in his voice, with a background beat.

In addition, Bad Bunny uses again refrain in the song “Dos mil 16” which is on the album “Un verano sin ti” (2022).

The day before the release of that album – May 5, 2022 – the plaintiff claims that the artist’s representatives tried to achieve agreement with her, who rejected him without signing any contract.

“However, the following day, the record with the plaintiff’s voice was published and sold regardless of whether she agreed to use her voice or identity,” the lawsuit states.

The lawyer’s voice could be heard in all Bad Bunny’s shows on his tour “Summer without you”which took place in Puerto Rico, the United States and Latin America starting in July 2022.

In addition to excluding his name from the created artwork, the defendants used De La Cruz’s distinctive voice without his name. consent for songs, records, promotions, concerts and social and music platforms, television and radio.
