“My flat is my oasis. I always like to come home »says Verena Birchler (67).
The retired tour guide, who still occasionally travels as a tour guide, appreciates the rural life and tranquility he lives in Pfäffikon ZH as well as the pleasant neighborhood.
Confirmation immediately after visit
More than 20 years ago, he saw an advertisement for his four-and-a-half room flat in a newspaper. «I’ve lived in Pfäffikon before, but it’s much more central, near the church and with heavy traffic. I no longer felt comfortable in my ground floor apartment and was looking for a quieter place,” says Birchler.
The single woman then contacted the landlord and was able to view the apartment on the second floor of an apartment with an elevator and six tenants. On the same day, she received the approval and apartment key from the private landlord living in the house. “You could call it a successful start. I still love living here and I want to stay here,” she says.
There is no luxury, but there is a lot of quality of life.
Birchler pays 1,890 francs a month for his flat, including additional expenses and a garage. Your apartment has a small kitchen opening to the dining area, an open, bright living room with a large balcony, a bathroom with contemporary fittings and a separate toilet. “My apartment isn’t modern or luxurious, but I like it and it’s affordable,” says the social retiree, who likes to cook for friends or neighbors and invites them to a cozy meal.
In addition to the large bedroom with another exit to the balcony, Verena Birchler has two small rooms. He uses one as his office and works where he plans his guided trips. The second room has sports equipment, irons clothes and uses the space for all sorts of things. “This is my creative space where I primarily paint,” she says.
Some painted pictures and photo collages from his travels can be found on the walls. The jinn lover often takes jinn home, chosen as a souvenir from their travels. He turned some decorative, empty gin bottles into soap dispensers. Gin Queen Birchler: “Looks nicer than plastic and is more sustainable.”
Favorite outdoor place to have fun and work
Verena Birchler’s favorite place is her balcony with mountain and country views. In the summer there are pots with tomatoes, paprika, sausage, herbs and other things you can plant on the balcony.
“As soon as it gets warmer, I take my laptop out to the balcony to type and sometimes even deer show up,” says the nature-loving single woman.
Living neighborhood assistance
In addition to her flat in a rural and quiet location, of particular importance for Verena Birchler is the good neighborly relationship with the residents and the neighboring house. “I rarely need my car, and if the neighboring family who doesn’t have a car needs it, they can use it. We’ve been doing it this way for years,” says Birchler.
Therefore, Birchler and his neighbors were worried when the homeowner died. “We were afraid that the heirs would sell the house and we would have to move. Fortunately, that’s not the case, and not all homeowners are nonprofits,” says Birchler.
He searched other apartments at the time, but said, “I can’t even find a smaller apartment in a place like this at this price.” As long as he still needs his office and can be creative, he wants to stay in his four bedroom apartment. He may then dream of moving into a two-room apartment. Verena Birchler: “Maybe I’m lucky and it’s time for a smaller apartment in our house to be vacant and I can stay here.”
