“Justice League” cameo in “Shazam 2” explained: Is there another comeback of it [Spoiler]?

Wonder Woman (GalGadot) has a cameo appearance in “Shazam 2 – Rage of the Gods“. Rumors had been circulating for a while, with screenwriters Chris Morgan and Henry Gayden dropping hints before the cameo was officially revealed in a TV commercial just under a week before its theatrical release – much to the chagrin of “Shazam 2” director David F. Sandberg, by the way.

Gal Gadot’s performance in her DC star role is interesting for two reasons: first, the post-credits scene of the first “Shazam!Picked up, in which Superman appeared, but without showing the hero’s face. The reason: Henry Cavill didn’t have time to film the guest appearance himself, instead stuntman Ryan Handley stuck in the costume.

Now, in Shazam 2, there’s a similar moment in an earlier scene where only Wonder Woman’s body and costume can be seen, but not Gal Gadot’s face. So audiences are being winked at wrong-footed, as you might actually believe that those responsible behind “Shazam 2” have once again only managed to pull off the cheesy version of a Justice League cameo – until Gal Gadot finally shows up (including the inimitable, groovy “Wonder Woman” theme by Hans Zimmer).

On the other hand, thanks to “Fury Of The Gods” there is now another Gal Gadot appearance after her third solo appearance in Wonder Woman 3 was recently shelved. As a result, many assumed that Gadot would have no role in the new DC Universe (DCU), as would fellow cast members Ben Affleck (Batman) and Henry Cavill (Superman). But after the cameo in “Shazam 2”, things (apparently) look very different again.

Will Gal Gadot stay in the DCU Wonder Woman?

So Gal Gadot will still be Wonder Woman for DC fans after all? The decision on this shouldn’t have much to do with appearing in “Fury Of The Gods”. Because as Chris Morgan and Henry Gayden did in an interview with the site explain, the idea of a DC cameo came up again very early in the development of the sequel.

And if you look at the Wonder Woman scene, which involves numerous cast members, it looks like it was shot during main filming in the summer of 2021 – well before James Gunn and Peter Safran took over DC’s sway and the planning to take over the franchise reboot. .

Conversely, the mid-credits scene starring Harcourt (Jennifer Holland), Economos (Steve Agee), and Shazam (Zachary Levi) could very well have been reshoots. More information about the credits scenes can be found in this article:

Presumably, the Wonder Woman cameo (which is also quite important to the plot) was simply changed to “Shazam! anger of the gods”., although another actress may become Wonder Woman in the future. Just like Ben Affleck, who has already said goodbye, will be seen again as Batman in the upcoming DC movie “The Flash”.

Gunn and Safran have revealed that they have spoken to Gal Gadot about her DC future and that she is ready to appear in DCU. Since other characters from the old DC era (the so-called DCEU) also make the jump to the new section (especially from James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad”), this is at least not completely impossible.

Whether Gal Gadot will actually play Wonder Woman again in the DCU (and whether that will happen in the form of a guest appearance or even a new solo film), only time will tell…
