“You – You will love me” is one of Netflix’s great success formulas. This is mainly due to the fairly controversial story, in which Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley), his character stalker, serial killer and sweetheart, is central. For four seasons, the sexy manipulator has been able to continue his criminal activities on a large scale. In Season 4, he left his home in New York to start a new life in London under a false identity. In the end, as expected, there were enough dead bodies.
Now that all episodes of “You” season 4 are available on the streaming service with the big red N, fans of the series are waiting for confirmation that Netflix is also ordering a fifth season. So far there is no green light in this area. Meanwhile, “You” star Penn Badgley has one wish in particular as the show enters season 5 (which it almost certainly will): Joe must finally get what he deserves and pay for his cruel deeds.
Joe has to pay!
While You’ve evolved from a meaty thriller to a tricky whodunit, Joe still believes he’s actually a good guy. Opposite Penn Badgley has once again emphasized that Joe should finally get his just punishment in Season 5. And viewers can probably rest assured that the things that happen to Joe in the (perhaps) final season won’t exactly be pleasant for him. At least that’s what Badgley sincerely hopes.
While Penn Badgley thinks the season four finale can be considered “satisfying” – especially if the series doesn’t get another season – it’s not the ending Joe deserved. Badgley also believes that even the viewers who sided with Joe wouldn’t be too happy with the ending. Joe has done too many terrible things for that: murdered, maimed, instrumentalized and dug tons of graves.

However, Badgley also knows full well that his character’s ending is not up to him, but ultimately a decision that must come from Netflix executives and the creators behind the series. In the interview with the Joe actor continued:
“It feels to me like we have to do another season. It feels to me like Joe should get what he deserves and now he should fall because he has all this power and wealth. […] I think what’s especially terrifying or dystopian is that he actually won. They took this man and brought him to the top. In that sense, I don’t think that’s the conclusion anyone wants.”
Whatever the outcome for Joe in You, it’s clear that the happy ending in Season 4 would be an unworthy ending for the character and the series. So you can be pretty sure there will be a fifth season – and in this Joe will (hopefully?) be held responsible.
