A mix of Flintstones and “Star Wars” – iconic desert villa for sale
Welcome to the High Desert of Southern California! To be more precise: Joshua Tree, once a dusty desert town where rednecks and hippies said goodnight, is now a hip hipster hub with vintage clothing stores and yoga studios (…and still rednecks and hippies).
Just under two hours from downtown Los Angeles, Joshua Tree today offers one thing above all as it did back then: a retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city. And there is also space, there in the desert. A lot of space. Space to realize sometimes eccentric architectural ideas. And exactly what is currently on the market.
Bonita domes – a property architecturally located somewhere between Fred Flintstone’s home in Bedrock and the settlements of the ‘Star Wars’ planet Tattooine.
And yours for $2.1 million. (In Zurich you can get a 65-m for that money2-Apartment on Witikonerstrasse.)
The building is based on a design by the late architect Nader Khalili, pioneer of the so-called superAdobe-Construction that combines the historic indigenous construction with modern technology.
The interior consists of several round domes, the largest of which consists of two bedrooms, a living area, a kitchen and two bathrooms.
But the complex also includes a living studio, two more bedrooms and one communal bath dome, a ‘shared bathroom dome’. The living area (without kitchen and bathrooms) is approximately 130 m²2.
Outside there is a swimming pool, a outside kitchen and something called a “meditation temple.”
The total area of the plot is 8000 m²2.
If you want to try living in the Bonita Domes first, you can rent them through Airbnb for a price of $488 per night.
Here let’s go to the sale list!
