In addition to the two fantasy greats “The Rings of Power” and “House of the Dragon”, another promising series was launched in 2022, literally bursting with retro vibes: “Willow” got a sequel! The family film from 1988 thrilled viewers with (for the time) spectacular special effects, a good portion of horror and unusual characters. The story should be continued on Disney + and in series. Eight episodes started in November 2022 – and will continue to do so.
As the American trade journals unanimously report, Disney+ cancels Willow after the first season. There will be no further episodes, although the story would have continued. Showrunner Jonathan Kasdan (“The First Time”) said at the start of the series that he would have loved to do another season of “Willow” and had plans to do so. This will not happen again.
It is not known why the streamer does not want new seasons of “Willow”. The reviews on the series are relatively solid, check that out Rotten Tomatoes Review shows a 66 percent audience score and 83 percent positive press reviews — perhaps “Willow” just didn’t excite the target audience enough.
That’s what “Willow” is about
If you still want to give the series a chance despite the cancellation, you will of course still find it on Disney +. You also don’t necessarily need to know the original movie to understand the sequel (although of course it’s usually more fun when you’re right in the middle of it).
Years after the foundling took Flora in and defeated Queen Bavmorda, dwarf Willow Ufgood (Warwick Davis) embarks on a new adventure. Willow is now a great wizard, and when Kit (Ruby Cruz) asks him to save her brother, he agrees. However, it soon becomes clear that there is much more at stake than Kit’s brother and Willow’s great task…
If you want to know more about the dwarf Ufgood, you will find what you are looking for with our colleague Sebastian:
