Anyone who publicly expresses his opinion on social media should expect violent backlash. Comedian Shumirun Nessa is currently experiencing this firsthand. The TikToker criticized non-binary Jeffrey Marsh, sparking a dispute that spanned the platform.

Jeffrey Marsh has nearly 700,000 followers on TikTok and makes videos about the LGBTQ+ community or about mental health. In late 2022, Marsh posted a video urging users to stop calling trans people “inspiration.” Marsh argues that transgender people are currently struggling to survive – and that’s uninspiring. Rather than glorifying them as inspiring, it would make more sense to specifically ensure that the lives of transgender people are made easier.

Comedian Shumirun Nessa commented on this video saying:

Patreon is a social payment service provider that allows artists to receive a self-determined amount of money from their fans.

The video of the 33-year-old immediately went viral. While some agreed with her, others accused her of transphobia. The Muslima then released another video explaining her criticism of Jeffrey Marsh.

She pointed out that Marsh started several videos with the words “Hello, kids” and repeatedly called on kids to write him on Patreon.

Nessa accused Marsh not of wanting money from the children, but rather that Marsh wanted the children groom.

Nessa showed videos of Marsh in her TikTok in which alleged Signs of grooming can be seen. For example, in a video, Marsh tries to convince children that it’s okay to turn their backs on their parents. Marsh also said that if the children divorce their parents, Marsh will replace the children’s families.

After this video, Shumirun Nessa received a lot of support from her community. Yet some users continue to accuse the Muslim woman of transphobia precisely because of her religion. It goes so far that Nessa even gets threats in real life. Her car was scrapped overnight and she received an email informing her what time she was taking her kids to which school.

Meanwhile, Shumirun Nessa has deleted all the videos she made about Jeffrey Marsh. Marsh herself has not yet responded to the allegations of grooming or Nessa’s videos.
