Fans of “Silent Hill” will remember the “Silent Transmission” 2022 well. Not only has it been announced that a video game remake of Silent Hill 2 will be released, but also that a film adaptation called Return To Silent Hill is in development. For many gamers, the game template is not only the pinnacle of the series, but it is also one of the best horror games of all time (have a look at the article “The 25 best horror games from the editors of GameProfrom our colleagues).
The special thing about “Return To Silent Hill” is that Christophe Gans will occupy the director’s chair. He was already responsible for staging the first “Silent Hill” adaptation in 2006. How and co. report now, it is finally known who will take on the main roles in the horror film: Jeremy Irvine (“Companions”) and Hannah Emily Anderson (“Jigsaw”). In addition, shooting is scheduled for next month in Germany and Eastern Europe.
This is “Back to Silent Hill”
The film is about a broken man named James (Irvine) who has lost the love of his life (Anderson). One day he receives a mysterious letter that leads him straight to Silent Hill. There he stumbles upon a once bustling city turned into a haunted place by an unknown evil. As James descends deeper and deeper into the darkness of the place, he meets real horror characters, some of whom are of course well known from the original. As James begins to question his sanity, he struggles to save his lost love.
Christopher Gans once again made it clear that the film is deeply romantic at heart. He is also very much looking forward to working with the main actors: “’Return To Silent Hill’ is a mythological love story about someone so in love he’s willing to go to hell to save someone. […] I’m thrilled to have amazing talents Jeremy Irvine and Hannah Emily Anderson take us on this journey into a world of psychological horror that I hope will delight and surprise fans of ‘Silent Hill’.”
In October 2022, producer Victor Hadida already announced that “Return To Silent Hill” will be a modern adaptation of the video game while still swearing allegiance to it. This should mean, among other things, that the film certainly contains well-known monsters (for example, the legendary Pyramid Head), but that new creatures are also allowed to cause fear and terror. In addition, Christophe Gans has already underlined that the new “Silent Hill” will have nothing to do with his 2006 “Silent Hill”, nor with the 2012 released “Silent Hill: Revelation”, in which Gans was no longer involved. .
