Moving forward: The director of “Game Of Thrones” makes the sequel to the series one of the best sci-fi series of all time

Since November 2021 we know that there will be a series based on the content of “Blade Runner 2049” (and therefore of course also on the original “Blade Runner” film from 1982), because “Blade Runner” has a director Ridley Scott has himself revealed that such a project is already in the works, that the miniseries could be ten episodes and that he will produce. Meanwhile, the green light for the sci-fi series Blade Runner 2099 to run on Amazon Prime Video has really kicked things up a notch.

When exactly “Blade Runner 2099” will start, is not yet certain. In any case, it is certain that the project is being worked on diligently, because there is news. It was initially thought that Ridley Scott himself would direct some episodes of the series. The pilot episode would definitely be part of that. However, that is not the case. How reported, is becoming “Game of Thrones“-Director Jeremy Podeswa (he directed the opener and finale of season 7, among other things) will take on the task. In addition to Game Of Thrones, Podeswa has also worked on the HBO series Boardwalk Empire.

This is what Blade Runner 2099 is all about

In the new “Blade Runner” series, the name says it all: “2099” takes place 50 years after the events of “Blade Runner 2049” and aims to tie in with the two previous films, both aesthetically and in terms of content. Based on Philip K. Dick’s masterpiece sci-fi novel, Android’s Dream About Electric Sheep, its dark, philosophical adaptations have captured the hearts of viewers and critics alike.

We at FILMSTARTS have also awarded both movies with a 5-star review and rightly placed them at the top of our list of the best sci-fi movies of all time. Should the series actually continue the quality of the films, we can look forward to an exciting sci-fi adventure.
