From the creators of “Avengers”: Amazon renews the second most expensive series of all time for season 2 – before the premiere!

The six-part first season reportedly cost the studio up to $250 million, making it the second most expensive series of all time (behind Amazon’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power at $462 million). And the streaming giant is confident that it will not only recoup this money, but also make a profit:

Now, more than a month before the series premieres, Citadel has also been renewed for a second season, just like the reported now. The usually excellently networked and reliable trade journal relies on internal sources. There’s been no official confirmation from Amazon so far, but experience shows there’s no reason to be exclusive doubt the information that has been learned. The deal appears to be a done deal, just not yet officially finalized.

The news comes a week after the streaming provider released the first trailer for “Citadel”, which finally gives a first glimpse of the long-awaited XXL agent adventure:

The production costs of the series, which was announced in 2018 and will finally see the light of day in the streaming world after five years, rose above $ 200 million, partly due to creative differences while working on the mega project.

As a result, the makers around Joe and Anthony Russo had to replace or relocate a large part of their team. Showrunner Josh Appelbaum and director Brian Kirk, among others, parted ways. Hunters creator David Weil was brought on board as a replacement to take the $160 million series in a new direction with reshoots costing an additional $75 million. However, since their Marvel megahits “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame” no longer have to prove to anyone at the latest that the Russo brothers know exactly how to take major productions to even greater success…

At the center of the story is the independent global intelligence agency Citadel, which was destroyed eight years ago by the Manticore syndicate. Agent Mason Kane (Richard Madden, “Game Of Thrones”) and Agent Nadia Sinh (Priyanka Chopra Jonas, “Matrix Resurrections”) then narrowly escaped, but today have no memories of that time – and have long since built a new life for themselves.

But one day their past catches up with them: their former colleague Bernard Orlick (Stanley Tucci, “The Hunger Games”) contacts them and informs them that Manticore is about to finally conquer the world.
