This is how you prepare your bike for spring

again Cycling time: As soon as the warm days come, Mr and Mrs Swiss return to their bikes. Expert Richard Zimmerli will show you how you can get your bike back in season.

A proper spring service includes all important road safety checks such as brakes, steering, tires and lights. Additionally, all screws need to be tightened, gears adjusted, and the drivetrain lubricated.

1. Check the quick version

On a quick-release bike, you should check that the wheel is centered and that the quick-releases are properly tightened.

2. Check the air pressure

After a few weeks in the basement, the tires no longer have pressure. Tires need to be reinflated.

3. Check tire quality

Once the tires have sufficient pressure again, they should be checked for functionality. Cracked and brittle tires can cause it to fail. The tire must be replaced before it bursts.

4. Oil chain

It would be wrong to pour too much oil into the chain. The correct way to do this is to spin the tire and put some oil on the chain. Excess oil is then removed from the chain with a cloth in the same motion.

5. Check the brakes

It should be checked whether the brakes are rubbing against the wheel on one side. Also, the brake pads should be wide enough.

6. Check the balance of the bike

You should then check that the bike is not rocking too hard. To do this, Richard Zimmerli drops the bike from a few centimeters high. If the bike shakes too much, the individual parts must be retightened. The tool for this is available in every specialist shop.

7. Tighten the saddle

Finally, the saddle should be checked and tightened if necessary.
