Mermaids live in the water, but this mermaid prefers to walk under the sun and moon. The depiction of the longing-looking title heroine on the new poster for the Disney remake “The Little Mermaid” makes this clear.
And the motif of the mermaid sitting on a rock is familiar to us (several times)! Disney bows gracefully to one of the cinema posters for the cult animated film “Arielle the mermaidfrom 1989. In this, Ariel can be seen on a rock in front of a giant full moon, the light of which is reflected in the waves. The live action poster features Ariel sitting in front of an overcast sky with the sun or moon shining through the clouds. And here too you can see reflections on the water.
What the new poster motif is even more reminiscent of than the original poster due to the sitting position of the mermaid: To the world famous bronze statue of the Little Mermaid in the harbor of Copenhagen, which is inspired by the title character from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale of the same name – Disney’s “Arielle” is also inspired by this fairy tale.
But the new poster is just a preview: On the night of March 12 to March 13, 2023, so in the night from Sunday to Monday, the first long trailer of “The Little Mermaid” will be released, after there were already some short teasers. The timing of the release is very special, as the eyes of film fans from all over the world will be on Hollywood this night: the Oscars 2023 will be awarded. The trailer celebrates its premiere during the live broadcast and we also expect an online publication – then we will of course also get to see the preview.
