Gone are the days of talking about another Steven Spielberg hit and another dinosaur blockbuster about the same movie — even though the “Jurassic World” series was only expanded again last year, Spielberg has long since left the director’s chair of his adventure story . And it will probably stay that way. However, as far as this week’s reboots go, they prove that neither Steven Spielberg nor dinosaurs have had their day in movie theaters.
Today, March 9, 2023, a whole series of highly anticipated films will start. Whether it’s an 18-rated slasher horror, star-studded dinosaur extravaganza, or Steven Spielberg’s latest masterpiece, movie fans can look forward to a strong mix this week:
“The Fabelmans”: Cinema Magic by Steven Spielberg
Steven Spielberg is considered a co-creator of modern blockbuster cinema, who gave the term cinema magic a whole new meaning with films like “ET”, “Indiana Jones” or “Jurassic Park”. With his strongly autobiographical ‘The Fabelmans’, the Hollywood legend is now working on her own story – and not only glimpses behind the magic of the screen, but ignites it. In the MOVIE STARTS review it got an excellent 4.5 stars.
At the center of the story is Sammy Fabelman, whose first visit to the cinema sparked an insatiable fascination with the moving image. As he grows, he is almost inseparable from the camera. He begins to see the world through her lens, but soon finds himself faced with his parents’ problems, which will severely test the family’s happiness.
“Scream VI”: Ghostface Makes New York Unsafe!
Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett succeeded Wes Craven, who died a year ago in 2015 – and made the impossible possible: “Scream 5” was smart, exciting, gory and fun, making it a more than worthy offshoot of the popular slasher is – Saga made. The success at the box office and excellent reviews (there were 4.5 stars in the FILMSTARTS review) proved the directing duo right. With “Scream VI” the two have now proven they’re no flash in the pan – even if their latest coup can’t quite keep up with its immediate predecessor. The review of FILMSTARTS (4 stars) states, among other things: “Anyone who moves into the new high-speed pace will be rewarded with a mercilessly gory and, above all, mercilessly clever meta-trip on the sixth attempt.”
In “Scream 6” some things will be different. When Sam (Melissa Barrera), Tara (Jenna Ortega) and Co. leaving sleepy Woodsboro to start a new life in New York, but Ghostface is already lurking on them and about to make their way through the big city…
By the way: only from the original team Courtney Cox with the party. This makes part 6 the first “Scream” movie without Sidney Prescott, played by Neve Campbell.
“65”: Adam Driver vs Dinos
In “65,” acting jack-of-all-trades Adam Driver has to deal with dinosaurs – not “Jurassic Park/World” test-tube animals, though, but the real-life originals that once ruled the blue sky planet. Because he and little Koa (Ariana Greenblatt) are forced to crash-land their spaceship – and strand on Earth 65 million years ago.
“Star Wars” star and indie crowd favorite Adam Driver is supported in the fight against the primordial giants by 15-year-old Ariana Greenblatt, who despite her young age already has a lot of experience fighting monsters: she already starred in “Love & Monsters” and “Scooby! Fully Tendered,” she is also part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a young Gamora in “Avengers: Infinity War.”
The spectacularly illustrated documentary “The Oak – My Home”, the French court drama “Saint Omer” and the thriller “Gletschergrab”, co-produced with ZDF, are also in cinemas from today.
