TV Warning with FSK 18: This earthquake horror movie – despite praise from Quentin Tarantino – is actually a total disaster!

Nicolás López must be an extremely cool dude! He was expelled from school as a teenager for writing a column for the major Chilean daily El Mercurio criticizing the country’s education system. But instead of being carried away by the adversity, he founded his own film production company when he was still a teenager – eventually making his directorial debut at just 21 years old. right away by none other than Quentin Tarantino personally voted the funniest movie of 2004…

A few years later, López also sought attention beyond the borders of his own country – receiving double support from “Hostel” torturer Eli for his horror production “Aftershock – Die Hölle nach dem Beben”, which is very loosely based on true events Roth, who served as co-producer and co-star of the Splatter project. Unfortunately that didn’t help. You can see for yourself what a catastrophe the terror shock absorber ‘Aftershock’ really is tonight, March 6, 2023, from 11 p.m. on Tele 5.

This is what “Aftershock” is all about

Three hipster machos (including Eli Roth) tour Chile’s hottest clubs together. The next day a very hip club in Valparaiso is on the program. But the wild night of partying in an underground disco ends in disaster when an earthquake measuring 8.8 on the Richter scale shakes the coastal region.

Those who are not crushed by the falling debris soon realize that the real horror awaits them on the surface. Because with the mobile phone network, the rules of modern civilization are also over: bloody chaos reigns on the streets…

Therefore, “Aftershock” is unfortunately not much good

When Eli Roth mercilessly rejects a disco acquaintance played by Selena Gomez as a gringo, that is the only time Nicolás López ironically criticizes the unbearably macho attitude of his protagonists. Otherwise, “woman’s butts get checked out” like there’s no tomorrow — and the public should at least keep their fingers crossed for the hipster idiots at some point.

But beyond that, the film’s central idea, that civilization itself is collapsing with its homes and infrastructure, barely comes to fruition: with the exception of a single mother who shoots every stranger for fear of her children, they are not the ‘ordinary citizens’ but only the inmates who have escaped from a collapsed prison and who use the chaos to satisfy their baser urges. Since the recently released “The Sadness” it has gone much further.

And so the conclusion of our 1.5 star review at the end of the day is: “Aftershock” is technically skillfully implemented, but the content is questionable, soulless and tension-free low-budget horror.
