Now SRF is also mating: Children should find their parents new partners in the dating show

Children must be able to do what parents cannot: With the new TV program “Kuppelkids”, TV SRF is also broadcasting a dating program for the first time. Will the state broadcaster break through as Cupid’s deputy?

“Swiss Date”, “Joya rents”, “Farmer, single, looking for …” or “Bachelor”: Anyone who misses the dream woman or dream man for private happiness has so far found what they were looking for in private television stations in Switzerland . And when the relationship broke down, they were happy to be back together.

Now SRF also starts being happy. In ten days’ time, his TV station will launch the new, four-part TV program Kuppelkids.

But stop! Now, before all the moral guardians indignantly grab the comments: “Kuppelkids” doesn’t suit children, but their parents. In other words, only one parent at a time. In principle, if the parents were still matched, no further matchmaking would be necessary. Especially not on TV.

And so Nico and Andri want to find a new partner for father Steff from February 10, Rafaela for mother Fabienne, Cedric, Celine and Amelie for father Stephan and Colin for mother Carmen. And always there as Cupid’s deputy: the state broadcaster SRF.

“The kids meet potential candidates online and in person and put them to the test until there’s only one left who can meet their mom or dad themselves,” SRF explained the concept in a statement Tuesday. And immediately delivers the dramatic cliffhanger: “Can the children really give their parents the happiness they have waited so long for?” There is a lot of pressure on young Amore’s shoulders.

But in the age of Tinder, Bumble and what feels like three hundred other dating platforms, why do we still need the “dome kids”? Here too, SRF itself answers: “As a single mother or father, it is often not easy to find a new partner.” The reason: the kids. Without the “dome” on the front. These often “disagree with the choice or do not feel integrated – a major obstacle to a successful new relationship.”

However, with “Kuppelkids”, SRF is not exploring entirely new territory. Last fall, three couples gave the TV channel the most intimate glimpses into their love lives. In the end, one of the duos received 20,000 francs for a wedding party. Besides moderator Nicole Berchtold, one of the best parts of “Jaaa! The show with heart”: Musician Stress and Dragqueen Paprika. Both are known for programs on private TV stations – such as CH Media (yes, which also includes this online portal !).

And yes, of course: Fernsehen SRF has always been interested in the personal happiness of each viewer. Or actually Fernsehen DRS, as Swiss television was called in German and Romansh Switzerland until 2011.

At that time, however, programs like “Benissimo” were about a million francs as the main prize on the Saturday night show. “Happy Day” is about a surprise reunion with a person you once loved. Or in “Carousel” new places were sought for pets.

However, to save SRF’s credit, it should be mentioned that Swiss color television once ventured into the real estate business during a special week. That was a quarter of a century ago. The youth program “Oops!” In 1999 there was also a new gadget to find a partner: a beeper*-like thing you could carry with you, for example to find your happiness when you went out.

In this historic “Oops!!” video (starting at minute 20), Fabrizio explains how dating used to be:

Despite ten pager-like things given away on the show (and the special effort with the dating show in general), the DRS youth show, which began in 1998, was only given a short life. It remains to be seen whether the new SRF show “Kuppelkids” will have more staying power. In any case, there is only talk of a “first season” so far. (aargauerzeitung.ch)
