He praised platforms for showcasing Latino talent

Venezuelan actress Ariadna González praised the work of streaming platforms in Miami for bringing Hispanic artists closer to the communities of America and the world.

“This is happening with soap operas, which no longer stay only on television, but migrate to Netflix or other platforms. Another outstanding example is ‘Encanto’, a Disney film, which represents the Colombian community. This is how we show the world how beautiful our countries are,” explained the actress who currently shares the stage with Latin icons such as Lupita Ferrer, Zully Montero, Eduardo Pardo, Lili Rentería and Francisco Porras.

Ariadna Gonzalez believes that it is a work Hispanic artists “It cannot be viewed pejoratively, on the contrary, it must be listened to and increasingly taken into account.

“It’s all about adaptability and creating new and more opportunities. It seems to me that the relief generation has a global understanding of the world, full of acceptance and interest in what is different. For this reason, I believe that we will see more and more a much more mixed and real art world”, he assured.

Ariadne came alone to NOW to fulfill her dreams as an actress. She performed in Miami in the second season of “Casa de Muñecas 2, El Regreso de Nora” (nominated for eight Tony Awards with the original cast), and will soon premiere “El Puente” (accompanied by Lina Echeverry).

“The first thing I liked most about Miami was the quantity diversity that you could come in one street. You can run into someone from Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Venezuela, as well as from Ukraine, Asia or Africa. I was surprised that we can all live together in the same place and that everyone is interested in learning and understanding cultures as one”, he appreciated.

Ariadna remembers that, for many years, Latin Americans they are presented “wrongly only with roles that do not define us”.

“The media often portrays Latinos as poor men or drug dealers and hypersexualized women with low knowledge, rather than portraying us as businessmen, doctors or upper class people. The opening of different platforms should favor that, at some point, there is no racial difference at the time of casting. Only then will many more opportunities open up for everyone in this highly competitive industry,” said the actress.

He cited the recent example of Ana de Armas playing Marilyn Monroe, “a super-talented Cuban woman who came to Hollywood and was able to catapult herself with her work basically because of its substance, but not because of its origin.” Or that of Jenna Ortega, of Latin origin, in the role Wednesday in Netflixor Edgar Ramírez, who plays all kinds of roles.

“Cinema, theater and television are our products reality, and the American reality, according to the 2021 census, is that 62.1 million of us are of Hispanic descent. Therefore, I think we owe more representation,” he said.

Currently enrolled in drama studies at Miami Dade College, Ariadna González received the Best Monologue Award from the Hispanic-American Actoral Society (2019) and two more for the play “La Elegida” in 2018.
