“Arielle” Is Far From The Last Disney Remake: “Hangover” Fan Favorite Plays Role In “Lilo & Stitch” New Edition

After Disney released a total of five live-action adaptations or remakes of its own animated classics in 2019 (including the mega-hits “The Lion King” and “Aladdin”), the frequency of live-action re-editions has increased in recent years. for the time being (with “Mulan”, “Cruella” and “Pinocchio” only three pieces appeared between 2020 and 2022) – which was partly due to the corona restrictions.

But that doesn’t mean the mouse house is moving away from the remake offensive. Numerous other new interpretations of well-known and popular works are planned for the coming years (including “Snow White”, “Hercules” and “Bambi”), with “Arielle, the Mermaid” next starting in cinemas on May 25, 2023. But progress is also being made on other upcoming projects, such as the live-action adaptation of “Lilo & Stitch.”

“The Hangover” star in “Lilo & Stitch”

We last heard about the new Lilo & Stitch coming in Summer 2022, when it was announced that Dean Fleischer Camp, director of Oscar-nominated indie hit Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, would be directing. Since then, the film has quietened down again – so far the first personal details have been announced for the camera: So will Zach Galifianakis play a role in Lilo & Stitch. The Hollywood Reporter was the first to report it.

Exactly what kind of character Galifianakis will embody is not yet known. The fact that he has now been announced as the first actor indicates that it should be a bigger role. However, it would also be conceivable that Galifianakis will not be seen in the flesh in the finished film, but only in a speaking role (possibly at least with an accompanying motion capture performance), after all, they star in “Lilo & Stitch” aside from the barely speaking alien main character (who will likely also be set to music in the remake by original speaker and co-director Chris Sanders) there are also a few other aliens that will definitely be animated. We can easily imagine him as a chaotic agent Pliikli or as a villain Dr. Jamba Jookiba.

In that case, a full-fledged live-action movie comeback of Zach Galifianakis would be a bit longer than expected if he has stepped out of the “Hangover” movies, the comedy “Tichtag” or his fictional comedy talk show “Between devoted the past three years to voice acting in animated projects (for example, “Big Mouth” and “Bob’s Burgers”), he will soon be seen in the tragic comedy The Beanie Bubble and the biopic Winner.

This is Lilo & Stitch

The original Lilo & Stitch wasn’t a huge Disney hit when it came out in 2002, but it’s gained more and more fans over the years. At the heart of the story is a little blue alien created by mad alien scientist Jamba Jookiba to wreak havoc in the universe.

But when he crash lands on Earth one day, the koala-like creature is taken in by the Hawaiian orphan girl Lilo and is named Stitch. A deep friendship develops between the two, which helps them face emerging dangers, such as Stitch’s intergalactic pursuers.

The live action version of “Lilo and Stitch” should then appear immediately on the streaming service Disney + (where the original can of course already be accessed), but when exactly is still unclear. The search for actresses for protagonist Lilo and her older sister Nani is currently in full swing.
