More than 6,000 photos were submitted by photographers from 72 countries for the “Underwater Photographer of the Year” competition. A jury decided what the best photos are. Because we don’t want to withhold the photos from you, here are the underwater photos that convinced the jury:

The photographer Theo Vickers dubbed this photo “The wild seas of an island”. It was made on the Isle of Wight.
“Hopeless” is the apt title of this photo by Alvaro Herrero, which he took in Mexico.
The photographer J. Gregory Sherman called this photo “Fade”. It was taken from the Cayman Islands.
“Unsung” is the name of this photo, which photographer Shane Gross took in Canada.
The photographer of this winning photo is Brett Eldridge. It’s called “Engine with a saddle” and it was shot in the US.
“Make love not war” is the name of this photo of two octopuses making love. Yury Ivanov recorded it in Indonesia.
The photographer Suliman Alatiqi called this photo, taken in Kuwait, “The Trunk”.
This image by photographer Don Silcock is titled “El Blanco – The White One” and was taken in Argentina.
This colorful winning photo is called “Klunzinger’s wrasse in motion” and was taken by Enrico Somogyi in Egypt.
