This is how the network responds to Sam Smith’s striking latex outfit

Sam Smith was unable to pick up an award at the 2023 Brit Awards, but the pop star left a lasting impression.

The Brit Awards are to the UK what the Grammys are to the US. And so it came about that one person absolutely could not be missing from the ceremony: Sam Smith.

Smith has been making more headlines with looks than music lately, including last Saturday’s Brit Awards.

Smith wore a very special outfit for the awards ceremony: a one-piece inflatable latex suit. The striking look was created by Indian designer Harikrishnan Keezhathil Surendran Pillai, who has already created similar works for the Harri label.

The designer revealed to the BBC that he was inspired by his everyday life. He thought about what a human would look like from his own dog’s point of view.

With extra-wide shoulders and puffy thighs, Smith’s silhouette was the most striking of all the looks on the red carpet at the event.

The internet has responded to this. The tweets included numerous condescending, insulting comments about Smith’s sexuality or character, which we don’t want to give a platform here. Here’s a selection of above-the-waist funny tweets:

“Sam Smith shows himself to the British like a burnt chicken.”

“I love this. Especially because of the mental breakdowns it will cause Karens and homophobes.”

“Sam Smith is directing all his ‘Jeff Koons’ energy at the British.”

“How Sam Smith turns up with the British.”

“Sam Smith really came to the British disguised as Mr. Krabb’s house.”

“Sam Smith with the British.”

“David Bowie did it first (and better) in 1973. Still very well done Sam Smith – you were brave!”

In view of the hateful comments, some users also emphasize that Sam Smith was not the first to come up with such an unusual idea – David Bowie then had the courage to wear such an outfit.
