Netflix hit for “Vikings” fans continues after the final season: first photos and launch revealed

While not all parts of Bernard Cornwell’s underlying “Uhtred saga” have been adapted into “The Last Kingdom” and the series enjoys great popularity on Netflix, it ended in March 2022 after five seasons with a total of 46 episodes. As producer Nigel Marchant explained, the series was apparently slated for five seasons from the start, as there were only ten installments when work began on The Last Kingdom and each season is based on two books.

Despite this explanation, the disappointment of the many fans was as expected, but a few months later a consolation followed with a very special announcement: The Last Kingdom is getting a movie sequel calledSeven kings must die“, which are loosely based on the remaining three parts of the original and the story by Uhtred von Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon) should finally end.

And now we know when that will happen. The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die will be released on Netflix on April 14, 2023 – and so a little more than a year after season 5. The streaming service announced this via the official Twitter channel of the series. But that’s not all, there were also some first pictures of the big “Last Kingdom” finale revealed, which you can click through in the accompanying tweet:

As the above impressions show (and fans will surely be pleased), the movie “Last Kingdom” visually will not suddenly differ from the series. In addition, the well-known duo Edward Bazalgette (director of six “Last Kingdom” episodes) and Martha Hillier (writes twelve “Last Kingdom” episodes) as director and screenwriter must also ensure that the brand remains faithful.

That’s what “Seven Kings Must Die” is about

According to producer Marchant, “Seven Kings Must Die” should also work substantively for newcomers, but the film also ties in with the end of the series. After King Edward’s death in the 10th century, rival heirs and various invaders fought bitterly for succession to the throne.

At the heart of the battle is Uhtred, who, alongside some old acquaintances, encounters both new allies and new enemies, and ultimately faces a difficult choice: will he decide for those he loves most, or for his dream to unite? broken England? The answer will be available on Netflix in just over two months.
