The sequel to “Plan‘just bears the title’ShipAnd that shouldn’t come as a surprisethat this time the action will take place on a ship instead of in and around an aircraft. Before we reveal more details about the story and who’s returning from the original cast, we need to Airplane SPOILER Alert emphatically. Since “Ship” is directly linked to its predecessor, we need to get into the ending of “Airplane” here.
This is what the “Plane” sequel “Ship” is all about:
“Ship” no longer focuses on Brodie Torrance, played by Gerard Butler, but only on ex-Foreign Legionnaire and prisoner Louis Gaspare, played by Mike Colter. After working with Torrance to protect his passengers in the Philippines from local terrorists, he is now on the run. We eventually see him left behind in the jungle, where he distracts the troops from their pursuers to allow Torrance to escape by plane.
*
The sequel shows how he manages to evade the local kidnappers and escape the island in a small fishing boat. But because the story of the plane is all over the media, it also attracts attention. A hunt for the fugitive Gaspare begins. So he hides on a container ship that is supposed to take him from East Asia to South Africa. But there he must soon realize that the ship is used by a human trafficking gang. Together with one of the passengers, who has military experience, and a crew member who knew nothing about the illegal activities, he declares war on the captain of the ship and does everything possible to free the trapped people and bring them to safety .
With Mike Colter! And with Gerard Butler?
While Mike Colter is back and the other two cast members should be found by his side, it’s uncertain if we’ll see Gerard Butler in the sequel. The story should already make it clear that he is not scheduled for a leading role. Noisy but a guest appearance by Butler is conceivable.
Discussions are currently underway to fill the post of director. Jean-François Richet, who directed Plane, will be on board as producer this time around. The announcement of the sequel comes as a surprise given that Plane is not a major blockbuster and has only grossed $43 million worldwide to date. However, the film is extremely well received by audiences and critics (we also give 3.5 stars for the “effective old-school actioner”), so those responsible will probably speculate that even more money will be invested in the home theater evaluation . registration is coming. And “Plane” was probably also produced quite cheaply. The sequel “Ship” should be even more without (or with very little) Butler.
When “ship‘ comes out, is not yet known. A theatrical release is not expected until 2024 at the earliest.
