“Ship” no longer focuses on Brodie Torrance, played by Gerard Butler, but only on ex-Foreign Legionnaire and prisoner Louis Gaspare, played by Mike Colter. After working with Torrance to protect his passengers in the Philippines from local terrorists, he is now on the run. While Mike Colter is back and the other two cast members should be found by his side, it’s uncertain if we’ll see Gerard Butler in the sequel. The story should already make it clear that he is not scheduled for a leading role. Noisy but a guest appearance by Butler is conceivable.
Discussions are currently underway to fill the post of director. Jean-François Richet, who directed Plane, will be on board as producer this time around. The announcement of the sequel comes as a surprise given that Plane is not a major blockbuster and has only grossed $43 million worldwide to date.
