The great found footage hype that sparked “The Blair Witch Project” is over. But who knows, we might have another one in the pipeline – Kane Parsons’ found footage shorts are getting crazy clicks on YouTube. The Backrooms (Found Footage) is the first in a series of The Backrooms mystery horror films and has received 44 million views in one year. As a result, the online format developed into a real phenomenon.

This success has not gone unnoticed by major studios and filmmakers – and horror specialist James wan (“Saw”) will now produce a feature film based on short films by Kane Parsons, who was only 17 years old. Wan is behind the project with his company Atomic Monster, but Studio A24 is also involved, who have made a name for themselves with genre-quality material and recently released us “Midsommar” and “Men – Was sucht du, wird dich haben” among other things.

Which seems very unusual: Kane Parsons does Feature film “Backrooms”.so loud “get on the big screen”, and even organize it yourself. notes that the teenager will have to wait until he has summer vacation for this.

However, the screenplay will not come from Parsons, but from Roberto Patino, who co-wrote the scripts for “Sons Of Anarchy” and “Westworld”, among others. What exactly it will be about is not yet known, but a starting point similar to that in the first of the now 16 “Backrooms” short films could be possible. This is set in the 90’s. While shooting a movie, a young filmmaker enters another maze-like dimension where he wanders – and encounters a monster.

In many of the nearly 85,000 comments under “The Backrooms (Found Footage)”, the short is praised as super scary and thrilling. One comment said the horror in this movie is scarier than 90 percent of what Hollywood delivers in its horror movies. Another user commented that he is rarely afraid of these types of videos, but the horror effect with scares worked well here. Several users write about goosebumps – and many congratulate the young filmmaker on his brand new movie deal.
