The 18-year-old Canadian enters the lottery for the first time and wins a million dollar jackpot

In Canada, an 18-year-old student filled out a lottery ticket for the first time in her life – and instantly won a $48 million jackpot. Juliette Lamour from Sault Ste. Marie in Ontario bought the lot on her grandfather’s recommendation.

“He said, ‘You just turned 18 (…) buy a lottery ticket and try your luck,'” the biology student said.

Since she had never played the lottery before, Lamour had to call her father from the lottery store and ask him exactly what to do. According to the Lotteries of the Ontario Province OLG, Lamour is the youngest winner of such a large jackpot in Canadian lottery history.

The student hadn’t checked her ticket and only pricked up her ears when she found out that the winning ticket was in Sault Ste. Mary was bought. A colleague then checked the certificate via the OLG app – and Lamour couldn’t believe her luck.

The brand new millionaire first wants to complete her biology studies. When investing the millions, she counts on tips from her father, who is a financial planner. (sda/afp)
