In the past, the creators behind “Avatar 2: The Way Of Water” have revealed a lot about the upcoming sequels. We’re dealing with the evil Fire Na’vi and it’s going to Earth, we’ve been able to learn. Producer Jon Landau admitted in an interview with the British film magazine now even more detailed insight into these plans for the next sequels.
“Avatar 3”: “Game Of Thrones” star as the leader of the Fire Na’vi
So he talked a bit more about “Avatar 3”. Oona Chaplinknown among others as the healer Talisa who later married Robb Stark in “Game Of Thrones”, the evil Fire Na’vi will lead as Varang in “Avatar 3”. That the granddaughter of cinema legend Charlie Chaplin plays in “Avatar 3” has long been known, that she leads the villains was recently revealed, now Landau has specified.
The Fire Na’vi, whom Landau and director James Cameron call the “Ash People,” become the main villains in the next installment. Landau now refers to it in the novel -Interview as “Aggressive Volcano People” and thus also makes it clear in which environment on Pandora they will live. He also makes it clear that Varang and her people do not see themselves as villains, but think they are on the good side.
“A lot of times people don’t see themselves as bad. What causes them to evolve into something we consider evil? Perhaps there are other factors that we are not aware of,” says the producer in an interview.
Big leap in time for “Avatar 4” – no surprise
Landau also revealed that “avatar 4‘ means a ‘great leap in time’. Although this is a new announcement, it doesn’t really surprise us. We’re also sure that the time jump will really only happen over the course of the movie itself. After all, James Cameron has already filmed part of “Avatar 4” – also because actor Jack Champion (Spider) would otherwise have been too old. This already makes it clear that we Spider and Co. will look even younger at the beginning of “Avatar 4”, then as older characters after the time jump.
It also fits the origin story of the sequels. There’s a reason why “Avatar 2: The Way Of Water” and “Avatar 3” are much more closely related in terms of content and time than the other sequels. Originally these two parts were one movie. It wasn’t until the script was written that it dawned on those involved that it was way too much material, so the project was shared.
Sober in “Avatar 5”
It was already known that there was a trip to Earth in “Avatar 5”. So far, James Cameron has refrained from showing life on Earth in cinema. A corresponding opening scene, which he originally directed for “Avatar – Aufbruch nach Pandora”, he subsequently removed from the film as he felt it only unnecessarily delayed the beginning of the actual story. Only in a later published expanded edition for home theater (is currently available as a Collector’s Edition on Blu-ray at a very reasonable price on Amazon*) he re-installed these scenes on Earth due to high fan demand, but made it clear that he personally preferred the starship take-off over Pandora.
Jon Landau now worked out the plot on Earth. You show an Earth that has collapsed under “overpopulation and depletion of natural resources”. It’s not just about showing the bleak future our planet is heading towards. It should be more optimistic “the film is about the idea of how we can change our course.”
“avatar 3‘ is scheduled to hit theaters December 18, 2024,’avatar 4‘ then on December 16, 2026 and ‘avatar 5finally on December 20, 2028.
