Jason Bateman has been mainly associated with comedy and comedy series for many years. “Arrested Development” in particular enjoys a huge fan base. But Bateman also has a penchant for dark subjects. He proved that not only with his performance in the Netflix series “Ozark”, but also as a director. He directed nine episodes of “Ozark” and also directed two episodes of the Stephen King adaptation “The Outsider”.
After his feature film debut “Bad Words” in 2013, Jason Bateman now comes up with the next project in which he will once again take the director’s chair: It’s a western titled “The Pinkerton“. Also on board as producer is Star Wars and Star Trek creator JJ Abrams, whose production studio Bad Robots is jointly responsible with Warner for the realization of the film. The Pinkerton was first announced in 2021.
A supernatural revenge western
The film revolves around the Pinkerton Agency, founded in 1850 by Detective Allan Pinkerton. Already during the Civil War, the agency was largely responsible for training agents of the US Secret Service.
Gradually, Pinkerton was entrusted with greater tasks – in 1861 the service could even thwart an assassination plot against US President Abraham Lincoln. In addition, there was also fighting against gangs, which had caused unrest since the civil war and terrorized the railway companies with serious raids.
Jason Bateman’s “The Pinkerton” is rumored to be a revenge western that will also have some supernatural elements. It is not yet known whether the film will also become a bit comical as a result. However, the trend in Jason Bateman’s career indicates that “The Pinkerton” is a serious genre film that is also clearly aimed at an adult audience.
And that Bateman is a talented director, he proved with “Ozark”. His episode “Reparation” even won an Emmy for Best Director.
