“Avatar 2” beats “Star Wars”: Three of the four highest-grossing films of all time now come from James Cameron!

That happened quickly: After James Cameron’s mega-blockbuster “Avatar 2: The Way Of Water” just overtook “Avengers: Infinity War,” the Pandora spectacle has now passed “Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens.” Avatar 2 is now the fourth highest-grossing movie of all time – and that doesn’t have to be the end of it.

“Avatar 2”, which continues to be very successful in theaters, currently stands at $2.075 billion at the worldwide box office. “Star Wars 7” with its $2.071 billion has been beaten and dropped to number 5 on the worldwide charts of all time. Now Cameron’s sci-fi adventure faces a very special duel – namely with another James Cameron movie.

In February it will be: “Avatar 2” vs. “Titanic”

Currently at number 3 of the highest grossing films of all time is “titanic“. The iceberg drama, starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio, has grossed $2.195 billion from its various theatrical releases to date. But this number will soon change again, because the next revival of “Titanic” is scheduled for February 9, 2023. Jack and Rose’s epic love story hits theaters in 4K to celebrate their 25th anniversary.

So there will be a direct duel between “Avatar 2” and “Titanic” at the box office, because both films run in parallel, and “Titanic” should therefore rake one or two million into its account. At the rate that “Avatar 2” has already reached number 4 on the all-time cinema charts since its release on December 14, 2022 and with the crowds continuing to pour into cinemas, but it’s entirely possible that the two Cameron films will switch places.

And then? “Avengers: Endgame” currently ranks second with $2.799 billion and “Avatar – Departure from Pandora” ranks first with $2.924 billion. It will be exciting to see how far Avatar 2 can go.
