Fake animal heads as a fashion accessory: “It’s not fashion, it promotes animal cruelty”

One outfit is currently causing a roar: the lion’s head pinned to Kylie Jenner’s dress.

The youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner clan wore the eye-catcher on his shoulder on Monday during Paris Fashion Week 2023.

While Jenner settled into the audience with her oversized stuffed animal — presumably due to a sore side of her muscles — Russian model Irina Shayk sauntered down the runway with the lion on her shoulder.

The striking dress was designed by Italian avant-garde fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli. To make it clear that it is not a real animal, the designer writes in capital letters on Instagram:

The design piece is made of faux fur, foam, wool and silk and is hand-painted to make it look as real as possible.

The lion’s head isn’t the only animal spotted at Paris Fashion Week. Canadian model Shalom Harlow is tucked away in a leopard dress:

Are the animal heads just for attention – or is there more to it? In an Instagram video, Schiaparelli explains that the robes (not the animals) are a reminder that you cannot exist without others.

PETA, one of the largest animal rights organizations in the world, welcomed the campaign. Ingrid Newkirk, the president, told TMZ:
