Incredible “Avatar 2” Record Hunt Continues: Two New Box Office Milestones

“Avatar: The Way Of Water” is ringing the (cinema) box office worldwide and there is no end in sight: even in its sixth weekend after its theatrical release, James Cameron’s sci-fi epic has still not shown any weakness and has taken the top spot in defended the charts. And that’s not all: “Avatar 2” also set two more records.

With a worldwide gross of $2.024 billion “Avatar: The Way Of Water” Is Only The Sixth Movie Ever To Cross The Magical $2 Billion Mark At The Box Office. James Cameron can also boast directing three of those six movies, plus Titanic and the first Avatar. The other three movies are Avengers: Infinity War, Star Wars 7: The Force Awakens, and Avengers: Endgame.

In Germany, on the other hand, “Avatar 2” and James Cameron are not only good enough for the top 6, but even for a place on the podium: 505,000 tickets sold and a turnover of 7.1 million euros (the best sixth weekend in German film history!) ensure a total box office result of almost 110 million euros. This puts “The Way Of Water” in third place behind “Avatar” (119 million) and “Titanic” (126 million).

As far as the tsurak wings can carry

If “Avatar 2” continues to be so successful in German cinemas, both titles are still within reach. At the same time, there is also a small limitation here: in Germany, cinema films are traditionally actually measured by the number of viewers and here “The Way Of Water” is still far from number 1.

At an estimated 28 and 27 million, respectively, “The Forester of Silver Forest” and “The Jungle Book” are probably second to none at the top. You can see that when these movies came out, cinema had a very different status than it does now.

Also Whether ‘The Way Of Water’ still has a chance to reach the top in terms of worldwide box office is not yet certain. One thing is clear: “Avengers: Infinity War” ($2.05 billion) and “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($2.07 billion) will overtake “Avatar 2” in the coming days. Also “Titanic” ($2.19 billion) at #3 is certainly within reach.

But despite all previous records, there is still a long way to go until “Avengers: Endgame” ($2.8 billion) and “Avatar” ($2.9 billion)…
