Roger Federer is now a co-host of the Met Gala

On May 1, 2023, the stars will once again have the chance to show off their fashion talent on the Met Gala red carpet. The designers create dresses especially for this evening, which are then worn by the celebrities and actively photographed – so that at the end it can be judged who has best fulfilled the motto of the event.

Roger Federer is also there this year, but he is not walking the red carpet this year. Roger is co-host at the Met Gala 2023. Together with actresses Penélope Cruz, Michaela Coel and singer Dua Lipa, he will entertain the high-profile guests this evening.

As the tennis star reports on Instagram, he is looking forward to the fashion event and its co-organizers – especially his “good friend Anna Wintour”.

The main hostess is still Anna Wintour, who has been organizing this event for more than two decades. Each year, the editor-in-chief of US Vogue welcomes select guests from the arts and culture to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The event has a different motto every year, which the outfits must adhere to. Last year it was “In America: An Anthology of Fashion”, this year the event is all about the late designer Karl Lagerfeld.

During his career as a designer for Chanel, Fendi and Chloé, he attracted attention not only for his extravagant visions, but also for his controversial opinions. For example, he was a proponent of the view that models should be sample size (i.e. size zero) to walk the catwalk. He said he thought Adele was “a little too fat” and that German supermodel Heidi Klum was “too heavy” for him.

He was also known to dislike the #MeToo movement, as well as homosexuality. For example, in a 2010 interview with Vice, he said he was against same-sex marriage – even though he was openly gay himself.

The exhibition Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty opens May 5 and runs through July 16, 2023 at The Met on New York’s Fifth Avenue.
