MyFrenchFilmFestival aims to highlight (young) French cinema internationally for a month, in the form of an annual online festival offering some of the most popular French discoveries of recent times for streaming.
While feature films cost $1.99 each (or just $7.99 for all of them), the short films can even be watched completely free of charge worldwide. Under the following link you can view the program of this year’s festival edition, which FILMSTARTS will also support as an official media partner in 2023:

Central to this are the two competitions in which prizes are awarded not only by juries, but also by the audience themselves to the best feature film and the best short film. You are therefore explicitly called upon to actively express your opinion after viewing (either as a mere assessment or with a comment on the social networks).
Incidentally, viewing the film at the MyFrenchFilmFestival is made particularly easy: Thanks to cross-platform partnerships, you can easily watch the movies on many streaming platforms that are already pre-installed, such as Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, Google Play, filmingo, Sooner or Mubi.
THE FULL MOVIES IN COMPETITION
After the sensational premiere of her feature debut “Saint Omer” at the Venice Film Festival, the legal drama about the inexplicable case of a mother who drowned her own baby has now even made it to the shortlist for the Oscar for Best International Film. Director Alice Diop is best known for her documentary work – and with “we“ a particularly successful one runs at the MyFrenchFilmFestival.

The title of the film, which won the Encounters competition at the Berlinale, describes the search of the director, her protagonists and the audience for a common ‘we’. This must be found through encounters with a cleaning lady, a writer or a nurse on a journey always along the RER B railway line, which crosses France from north to south…
Like many of the protagonists of ‘Wir’, Algerian-born Frenchman Ahmed (Sami Outalbali) grew up in a Parisian suburb. Now his sometimes very conservative views are turned upside down when he meets (and lusts after) the energetic Tunisian Farah (Zbeida Belhajamor) at university.
» Here you can watch “The Story of Love and Passion” at the MyFrenchFilmFestival
The title “The story of love and passion“ This does not only refer to the flirtation of the two main characters: director Leyla Bouzid lets her protagonist dive deep into the history of Arabic literature, during which he comes across a surprising amount of erotic material. Some modern prudishness carelessly interpreted as “traditions” suddenly finds itself in a much more ambivalent light.
One look at the poster is enough to see that director Jean-Christophe Meurisse takes no prisoners in his second feature film. Instead, he serves us a satire that is as bitter as it is absurd and unparalleled when it comes to black humour. Celebrated its critically acclaimed world premiere “Bloody Oranges“ at the Cannes Film Festival.

The episodic story takes place in several places in France in one night: while a retired couple must win a rock contest to pay their debts, a minister faces charges of tax fraud and a young woman encounters her own Stalker…
There are many films about children from problem areas who (seem to) have no real chance in life. but “softie“ by Samuel Theis paints a more optimistic picture: ten-year-old Johnny also lives in a social housing estate, this time in Lorraine. But rather than a predicted failure, this is about the possibilities that a little inspiration could open up for many children.

Not only does Johnny follow his young mother’s love life with interest – in Mr. Adamski, the ten-year-old also gets a new teacher, who, believing the boy, opens many new doors in his previously so limited world. ..
Labidi (Aurélien Gabrielli) lives according to the cliché of a young writer: Very close to subsistence level in a 1-room flat, he keeps his head above water with changing temporary jobs and small deals. But when he meets Elisa (Louise Chevillotte), he begins to doubt his precarious existence…
» Here you can watch “The World After Us” at the MyFrenchFilmFestival
“The world after us“ at first sounds like many other films before it – after all, the character of the penniless writer is part of the standard equipment, especially in French cinema. But at the same time, director Louda Ben Salah-Cazanas paints an extremely urgent and specific portrait of a generation that struggles more than ever before with the constant conflict between freedom and security, self-realization and family. In this conflict, most of us will be able to identify with ourselves, at least to some extent…
“between the waves“ by author and director Anaïs Volpé is perfect for a double program with “The World After Us”. In the end, it’s back to the conflict between the pursuit of dreams and the desire for security, negotiated with a very different energy here and out in the nocturnal, pulsating streets of Paris instead of in a stuffy apartment…
» Here you can watch “Between the Waves” at the MyFrenchFilmFestival
Between the Waves is about aspiring actresses Margot (Souheila Yacoub) and Alma (Déborah Lukumuena), two inseparable friends who face the world and its possibilities with disarming carelessness, but whose relationship is broken by the futility of their efforts, yet being put to the test. test.
Of the ten films in the international competition, four have already been officially released in Germany as a theatrical release or as a VoD offer – namely “The Time We Share” with Isabelle Huppert, “The Odyssey”, “The Magnetic” and “Zero Fucks Given” . with Adele Exarchopoulos. These films are therefore not part of the festival offer for Germany, but can of course still be viewed on the usual streaming platforms.
