Avoid alcohol during the month of January. Two years ago I had the “Dry January” contest as my New Year’s resolution – and failed almost three weeks later. Military service, coupled with the corona epidemic, softened me back then.
I have no excuses this year anymore. I should have been more motivated at the beginning of the year. What’s wrong with leaving after a few weeks of work without a beer or a glass of red wine for dinner, I thought to myself. Only a few days later I learned: I don’t just drink beer or mulled wine once or twice a week. There is also a whiskey to enjoy on jass tours with friends, after skiing, football evenings and in between. Alcohol is more involved in my life than I will allow myself.
you can do it without alcohol
This awareness was a small slap in the face. But the conversations I had with my “sick friends” in my circle of friends and family calmed me down again. In the beginning, everyone had similar experiences. I haven’t had any alcohol in twelve days. No problem during the week. But last weekend, I went back to skiing for the first time in over twelve years. Admittedly, it wasn’t easy to do without an alcohol body warmer during the mandatory post-ski after a day on the slopes. Still, I passed and realized: it was fun, even if there was no alcohol in the evening and a hangover the next day!
