Innovations 2023: A full program!

2023 will be a year full of electrical innovations. Some models are already known, others will make their debut in the next twelve months. Here is a non-exhaustive overview of the pleasures to be expected.

Manufacturers are redoubling their efforts to expand their range of electric vehicles. Whether traditional or new, they are all designed to meet the increasing demand, from city cars to luxury vehicles.

The scorpion has stung the Fiat 500e with its electric venom. The power increases to 155 hp, the right atmosphere is provided by a sound generator that imitates the characteristic roar of an Abarth with combustion engine inside and out.

Aiways has been represented in Switzerland for over a year with its SUV U5 and will double in 2023 with the U6. The Chinese manufacturer offers an SUV coupe with a length of 4.80 m, a 218 hp engine and a range of 405 km thanks to a battery of 63 kWh. Base price: 47,490 CHF.

In November last year, Audi presented the new Q8 e-tron, the successor to the first ‘e-tron’. Also available as “Sportback”. The power ranges from 340 hp/664 Nm (Q8 50) through 408 hp/664 Nm (Q8 55) to 503 hp/973 Nm (SQ8). The theoretical range is between 491 and 600 km, depending on the silhouette and the engine. Base price: CHF 87,900.

In addition to a subtle restyling, the small premium Frenchman will receive a new engine with 156 hp and a battery expanded by 4 kWh to 54 kWh. The range is now 402 km and the price starts at CHF 44,600.

The Hyundai Ioniq 6 is highly anticipated and will make its commercial debut in 2023. A good opportunity to see if the original model lives up to expectations. There is a choice of two engines: 229 hp (2WD) from CHF 64,900 and 325 hp (4×4) from CHF 68,900.

In 2023, Hyundai will also renew the Kona, which will have a more dynamic and status-oriented design. Hyundai will retain its diverse line-up of internal combustion engines, hybrid and all-electric powertrains.

Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show last October, the Jeep Avenger introduces the brand to 100 percent electric power. It has the same engine as other products of the Stellantis Group, namely 156 hp, and has a range of approximately 390 km.

Kia will present the large SUV EV9 next spring. The brand mentions a range of about 480 km and a charging time of 10 to 80% in a maximum of 20 minutes.

In the spring, Lexus will launch its electric SUV RZ 450e. Equipped with two engines that produce a total of 313 hp and allow a range of almost 400 km. Another novelty is the “butterfly” steering wheel, which resembles that of a Formula 1 racing car.

Lotus enters the electric SUV segment with its Eletre. The program includes sharpened sportiness thanks to a power of up to 900 hp, a range of up to 600 km and a battery of radars, lidars and cameras for maximum safety. Base price: CHF 116,090.

Maserati is active in Formula E from this season and is launching two fully electric “Folgore” models: the SUV Grecale with 544 hp / 800 Nm and a 105 kW battery and the Gran Turismo (photo), the be It’s comeback and would have at least 750 hp/1350 Nm of torque. That works!

After the large EQS SUV, the next smaller format, the EQE SUV, will hit the road in the course of 2023, with power outputs between 292 hp/765 Nm and 476 hp/858 Nm for the AMG version. Base price: CHF 106,800.

No less than three electric novelties from Mini are expected for 2023: the 3-door Mini Electric will receive an update. This is followed by the Countryman, which also runs 100 percent electrically, and finally the final version of the Aceman Concept (photo).

The German compact car will be available in the spring with a fully electric drive, both the sedan and the station wagon. It gets the 156 hp engine coupled to a 54 kWh battery known under the brands of the Stellantis Group. The Mokka Electric will then have the same engine.

Like its German cousin, the Opel Astra, the Peugeot 308 with a 156 hp engine and a 54 kWh battery will be converted to electron propulsion. Incidentally, the e-208 has also been updated with this new engine.

The Polestar 3 is the third model of the Sino-Swedish manufacturer and comes in the form of an SUV. Under the hood are two electric motors with 489 hp/840 Nm or 517 hp/910 Nm, powered by a 111 kWh battery. The base price is CHF 99,900.

Even though they are the most luxurious brand on the market and one of the oldest at 120 years old, they cannot escape electrification! Rolls-Royce will launch the Spectre in 2023, a majestic coupé that exchanges its usual V12 engine for an electric drive with 585 hp / 900 Nm and a range of 520 km. The price? Around 400,000 euros, even before an individual design.

The Volvo EX90 shares the platform with the Polestar 3 and has the same performance and a range of 600 km stated by the manufacturer. The Volvo EX90 also features many sensors, cameras and radars, both inside and out, all controlled by innovative IT to make it the safest car ever. The manufacturer’s vision is “zero deaths” on board one of its vehicles. Base price: CHF 114,800.

VW will already refresh the style and quality – both of which have been criticized – of its ID.3. In addition, the ID.7 sedan (pictured), which was presented last week in its almost finished version, should hit the market in a few months.

Even more? Other upcoming innovations are discussed, notably the BMW i5 (electric 5 Series) or the Citroën ë-C4 X, a counterpart to the Peugeot 408, as well as the second Honda with a fully electric drive, the SUV e:ny1 , which will be launched in China is already on the market. Ford is expected to reveal the result of its partnership with Volkswagen based on the German manufacturer’s MEB platform. And finally – finally! – the new, fully electric version of the Porsche Macan appears, which will replace the current combustion engine version.

It is also worth noting that some new brands will be launched soon: these include Lucid from the US, which has already opened a showroom in Geneva, BYD from China, whose talks with Swiss representatives are well advanced, and Fisker, whose Ocean SUV The year 2023 couldn’t be more interesting!
