Michael Giacchino will once again be able to demonstrate his love for cinema and monster movies – this time on a much larger scale. Warner, the studio for which he scored “The Batman”, among other things, now tasked him with making the sci-fi horror classic”formula‘, also known as ‘Them!’, is being re-released as a major feature film. This is reported by the industry magazine Giacchino is currently meeting with potential screenwriters for the project.

Released in 1954, Them!, which was titled Formicula in Germany, is considered the first Hollywood film of the era in which humanity is attacked by giant insects – an idea that soon spawned a series of similar productions. The classic, directed by Gordon Douglas, focuses on giant ants that mutated after nuclear weapons tests.

Giacchino wants to reinterpret the title in a modern way. Opposite to he explained those are “new version of ‘Them!’ deals with the subject of immigration.” He wants to tell this subject “through the lens of a wacky sci-fi monster movie”.
Of course, Michael Giacchino will remain true to his old craft and will be personally responsible for the score. As a film score composer, he has already won an Oscar (for “Oben”) and was nominated for another (for “Ratatouille”), as well as scoring the more recent “Stark Trek” films, “Rogue One”, the most recent “Spider-Man” trilogy and the “Jurassic World” titles. In addition, there are scores of dozens of other movies, series and video games in his vita.
