The son of the uncompromising Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang) is certainly one of the most exciting characters in the whole movie, as he lives with his enemy – the turncoat Jake Sully (Sam Worthington). In addition, he is one of the few human characters in the Na’vi adventure. However, its origins remain at least partially obscure in the movie, “The High Ground” now offers a cure:

Paz Socorro is Spider’s mother, née Miles, as revealed on page 38 of the first volume of The High Ground. Spider was once one of the first humans to be born on Pandora, but grew up as a child not only without a father, but also without a mother. Because he was just a baby when Paz Socorro was on the (the finale of “Avatar”) died – before Jake Sully finally took him in, hoping that Spider “wouldn’t be like his parents”.

Because Spider’s mother was also an RDA soldier who had a forbidden love for Quaritch. Paz, who was carrying a baby photo of Miles on the mission, died in battle. And today it’s Miles, aka Spider, who carries a photo of his once-pregnant mother.

Wishing he could bring his mother back, Spider is sure that she couldn’t have been as bad as his father – and that she too could have been converted to a peaceful life just as he left his human lineage behind and became part of the Na’vi community. While his mother is presumed dead (but will she stay that way?), Spider saved Colonel Quaritch’s life in The Way Of Water. He has forgiven him, treats him kindly – ​​in order to possibly awaken good things in the dismal army as well.
